Is @2 for real?

My republican anti-choice mother had two abortions of her own, and helped me get one when I was 15. Funny how these things are changeable when it's your family involved.

The article fails to mention THAT HE IS A REPUBLICAN.

@3:

Well, @2 just forgot to add "We also like going to foreign countries where abortion is legal - if you're rich enough to afford that."

@4 Max, Max, Max... What about family values, anti-choice, anti-gay *doesn't* scream Republican to you?

Murphy is, sadly, the representative for my district. (I nearly wrote "my representative," but that would be incorrect.) He's a weasel who secured his position through gerrymandering. Like many other Republican legislators, he refuses to hold truly public town hall meetings, favoring highly scripted closed events instead.

It should be no surprise to you that he lies as easily as he breathes. The fact that this good family values man had a mistress, that this anti-choice suggested that she have an abortion is completely in character.
7
@3: Well, people are entitled to change their opinions. I trust you're grateful for her opinion on the matter when she was pregnant with you. Nothing "funny" about that at all.
8
A HYPOCRITE POLITICIAN,,,how shocking, gasp!
9
@7 raindrop: By that logic she should also be grateful for her opinion on the matter during the other pregnancies, if they were before Lucy-as-fetus, because otherwise Lucy might not have been born either.
10
Well, they must have raped the mistresses, so the abortions would've been legal.
11
@7 Should I also be grateful for the donations she made in my name to anti-choice orgs? Should I be grateful for being called a murderer daily until I moved out at age 18? GTFO
12
@6 slog has readers other than in five blocks in Seattle,,shhhhh don't tell them,,,just kidding, they have a guy in DesMoines and a couple of women in Duvall, too...

It's become a trope that the most homophobic legislators are the closet cases. Are the most pro-life nut cases aways the ones who dodged child support payments because of abortions?

Let's promote that - if you're anti-choice, we'll dig around until we find your wife, mistress, or daughter had an abortion.
14
raindrop would have been better off if his mother had had more abortions.
16
Dan's spot-on. Religious conservatives have no morality beyond their selfish needs and demanding others obey them. Anyone with half a heart can see tRump for the empty ego-maniacal idiot that he is. The religious conservatives don't care, they simply don't see anyone else besides themselves as human or having value.
17
It's a good thing God didn't abort you, huh Raindrop? Like the ful 1/3 of pregnancies that he ends naturally before the first trimester.
18
@17. Indeed yes, and the same divine providence blessed you as well.
19
'Hypocrite' is NOT a strong enough term. The blank, uncomprehending evil of these guys really justifies digging for Victorian terms.

'Morally Insane' seems to cover it.

Rep Tim Murphy announces "retirement." http://www.politico.com/story/2017/10/04…

Thanks @20! I didn't know that! Good. I wish every single other Republican and half the Democrats would follow him out.

Let's keep in mind also that the 20 week ban passed the SAME WEEK that they let CHIP expire.

These assholes don't care about fetuses or babies or god or any shit like that. They don't even believe it. The reason they are able to make exceptions for themselves is that their believes were never centered around giving a damn for the embryo or fetus or god-given soul or any such thing. They are motivated by a desire-cocktail that is one part pandering to certain Evangelical voters, one part punishing/controlling women, one part racism. During one of the health care debates, someone asked about how women would get coverage for pre/post natal care under one of the various plans, and one of these asshats responded that if her husband had good insurance, she could just get covered through his private plan. That's the world they see. One where the only women who ever have sex are the women who are married to rich men and who are willing to have babies when they have sex. That's it. Everyone else- well you shouldn't have been having sex in the first place. It's why they rant against welfare queens and immigrants with anchor babies and sluts who want coverage for their birth control. These people hate women, they hate poor people, and they hate black/brown people, and they dress that up like a belief system. This is why they don't see it applying to them when it happens to them- they aren't women, they aren't poor and they are white. So the rules don't apply.

Please wait...
