At some point later in life and especially after what many of us - along with Maupin - have been through and survived, it perfectly OK to respect what the younger folk are doing to forge ahead but to forego the next, now, new, It's just too tiring to keep up, and frankly, we've spent our fair share of time on the battlefield.

Isn’t it grim when a gay icon can be berated for not using this year’s preferred lexicon to talk about a community he has been a very active and vociferous member of for probably longer than the article’s author has been alive for.

‘Woke’

Po-faced loser

"Had this taken place on a college campus, the reaction, I think, would have been far different."

Yes, it would have. Because too many colleges are in thrall to rigid ideology and not the exchange of ideas (some of which might be abhorrent). Some fresh-faced little shit would have shouted Maupin down in an orgasmic act of virtue signalling and there would have gone another gay hero who was not heroic enough for today's narrow identity politicians. I wish people were better able to choose the enemy. If Armistead Maupin = Milo Yazzerwazzerwhatever, then we're past the point of sanity.

"problematic" has become such an awful word. It seems to mean 'unacceptable but I don't want to say so here'

Please wait...
