"You have their backs"...Except those who believe people who are in the country illegally and who commit crimes shouldn't be here. You know, those awful people who believe the law should be enforced.

No one cares what you think Muffy. Move along.

No one cares what anyone thinks but themselves these days. I suggest you take your own advice, sameor.

Well, I say No! I will not ! As I live in Seattle, not burien. Let those who live there deal with any perceived slights they feel are unjust.

Besides, most of the people who read this story, and agree with it. Are actually going to do nothing about it. Why? Because they have their own lives to live. Jobs to go to. Shopping, kids, families, friends, other things in their lives that they spend their time on. Things that they feel are more important to them than illegal immigrant rights in burien.

The only way I see to change things, is to change the City Council. And the minds of home and business owners in burien. Good luck with that.

@1 spoken like a true gasbag Trumpist given that undocumented workers are staying where they are because we desperately need them in agriculture, services, construction and on. You should also be so proud of yourself for refusing to understand how government workers going after undocumented people drives them further underground thereby making our communities less safe.

Even at the Stranger, the comment thread when it comes to immigration is filled with hateful bigots who try to hide behind an obviously fake respect for "the law." You know what else is illegal, besides unauthorized presence in the US? Criminal harassment and intimidation. Making threats of violence against specific people at specific addresses. Incitement. If you hypocrites had any real respect for the rule of law you would see that the hatemongers who are trying to frighten immigrants and their children are a much greater threat to community safety and peacefulness than are the - overwhelming majority - law abiding undocumented people who are living quiet productive lives and raising families here.

Why are they undocumented? Persons from Canada or Mexico who get a job in the US should get a visa allowing them to return home any time without fear of being locked out, and permitting them to quit their jobs and take a different one at will. Of course this would force low wage employers to at least pretend to obey labor laws like minimum wage. There's plenty of work needed on the infrastructure and easy ways to raise money to pay for it so there will be plenty of jobs if we choose to do it.
The Human population in the United States is too large and immigration is the main driver of population growth. Immigration should be limited to humanitarian considerations only and not propelled by special interests seeking cheap labor.
There is no legal or moral justification for turning away the children fleeing gang violence in Central America. But flying a tiny fraction of one percent of the displaced persons from the other side of the earth to the United States, like the refugees from Syria, amounts to a worthless and silly gesture.
We need sane and wise leadership on immigration policy, and politicians who pander to racists and bigots have nothing to contribute to the discussion.

@5. What you don't know about the world could fill a book.

I own a construction company and I don't need illegal immigrants to work for me at all. I don't want to match FICA taxes on a fake SS number. I have US born citizens and legal refugees with work visas as employees who I pay above a living wage.

The truth is that if you pay people a decent wage, tighten your margins a little, and pass some of that cost onto clients, you can have a competitive construction business that doesn't rape its employees. This attracts good workers, who when compensated justly are hard working and loyal.

The type of business owner that employs illegal immigrants for their labor doesn't charge less than me. They just take more money off the top. They're pieces of exploitative shit.

And this looks like a justification for the Trumpette Burien slate's violation of campaign laws, much less their mean-spirited (are they not "christians"?) campaign against the less fortunate.

Thanks for your question, Stephen. CM Debi Wagner of the Burien City Council had this response:

The city is suspending the rules not just over the fence (structures) our signs are attached to but also
For all planter boxes along 152nd (structures) full of signs. City will be tightening up the code and being specific in future.
Meanwhile ALL candidates are violating the rules in signs!
