Rick Perry's the goddamn best. Really wish the Don would've grabbed him for VP, which would've had the added benefit of opening up a cabinet position for some other worthy appointee like Kid Rock, Scott Baio or the Duck Dynasty guy.
You all are so busy gawking at the stupidly of electricity (which you only get from coal and oil) being the solution to rape that you're not even talking about the racism and colonialism that this all begins with. You have to watch the actual video because ABC doesn't quote the first part in the text.
"I just got back from Africa. Let me tell you, where people are dying in Africa is because of the lack of energy they have there, and itâs going to take fossil fuels to push power out into those villages in Africa, where a young girl told me to my face 'one of the reasons electricity is so important to me is not only because I'm not going to have to read by the light of a fire and have those fumes literally killing people. But also from a standpoint of sexual assault...ââ
We're drill for those Africans. It's like our, "burden" let's call it. To bring them, you know, lights, Civilization. Rapey black Africans are frightened away by the white man's fossil fuel light magic, I guess?
Maybe we should just ignore all the stupid shit and lift out only one piece of Perry's quote about burning fuel to make light:
those fumes literally killing people.
LITERALLY. KILLING. PEOPLE. The FUMES are what's doing it. Fuel, fire, burn it, you get POISON GASES filling your air. All our air!
You're so right, Rick! We're polluting the air to make electricity and it's killing us! Yay Rick Perry let's go build a wind farm come on everybody!
@11 - Seriously, this has to be the dumbest argument youâve ever made. Your argument has nothing to do with Perryâs argument.
That we benefitted from fossil fuels in numerous ways 150 years ago, long before the global impact was known, doesnât mean we have to be wed to their use in perpetuity. We can and should move beyond them now regardless of how they may have benefited our society in the past.
But that has nothing to do with Perryâs moronic comment. Lots of women are assaulted and raped when the lights are on. But also, we can power lights without being dependent on fossil fuels â including by other forms of energy regulated by the Department of Energy. If having lighted sidewalks reduces assaults, light them them with electricity generated by other means.
Then explain it to me Max. I've just read these new accusations about how Hillary gave the Democratic Party money and in return her team could run the day to day office and hire people.
Mmm, to my mind that looks like rigging. And for Elizabeth Warren, one of the few honest politicians, as I read it, to agree that yes it was a rig.. then I start to notice. Bernie is not blameless, suddenly becoming a democrat to get the nomination. Explain to me where I've got it wrong.
Maybe rigged is not the right word for what happened re Hillary and co. It sure wasn't a level playing field for any other contender. This was not Hillary's campaign office after all.
He's a total idiot, but he is talking about something that is important, he just doesn't understand it. It's true that rural areas in southern nations need energy, and that with energy comes less exploitation and increase in safety, education and health for women and girls. This is actually a thing. The biggest flaw in what he's saying is that this has nothing to do with fossil fuels- that's not the only way to provide energy and development- and in fact as others have said above, fossil-fuel-dependent infrastructure etc often comes with neocolonialism. What they need is energy autonomy and new tech, and plenty of people are pushing for this. Big resistance from assholes like Perry, Tillerson, etc.
Step 1. Ask Rick Perry a question.
That's it.
Or maybe not.
Some vision problems canât be fixed with a lens.

Ever heard of a dam, a wind farm or solar power?
Yes? That's why the whole thing he said is stupid?
