Aren't like 90% of Media Companies run by Trump-Supporting, Anti-Union Billionaires (or Millionaires)?

Blethen would break the Times' unions in a hot minute if he could.

Sorry, but I'm 'That Guy'. The word you want is shutter, not shudder. Big difference.

Wealthy, fat, and ignorant of the needs of the voters.

"the Free Enterprise system"

People who believe this are America's version of Radical Islam. Except they used lead-filled water instead of lead bullets to do their killing.

Get ready for more of this. Automation and AI are going to start killing off jobs fast in the next several years. We are rapidly approaching a point where unemployment as traditionally defined could permanently move deeply to the point where 50% or more of the working-age population will not be able to find employment. Perhaps even more. Meanwhile, the people who own the robots, like this guy, will make out like bandits.

It's going to cause serious social and political upheaval. Quite possibly real widespread violence, if we fail to manage this transition well. Donald Trump is just the first gentle breeze announcing the hurricane to come.

To put matters in perspective, the first big economic shift of this kind, the Industrial Revolution, gave birth to communism, fascism, socialism and liberalism. And two major world wars, three if you count the Cold War. This transition will be even more jolting. And there are a hell of a lot more people now with access to a hell of a lot more dangerous technology.

Interesting times.

@5 yup, of course, being Americans (humans?) we will recognize this on a greater scale about 20 years after the appropriate time to take action (now... or yesterday)

But billionaires are job-makers and that's why they need more tax cuts...

Everyone just start stealing from your employer now. You have no pension and your job will be gone soon. You're fucked so start looking out for yourself now.

β€œIt is my observation that unions exert efforts that tend to destroy the Free Enterprise system.”

Ah yes! The old hackneyed 'invisible hand of the market' trope. Christ, I thought we'd all learned by now that there's no such thing as a "free" market. All markets are controlled and intervened upon by a host of intentional, human-created policies. It's just a matter of who benefits from those policies.

Apparently Ricketts is making sure that he benefits at the individual expense of all those journalists.

Can journalists form co-operative newspapers similar to the way local consumers can create co-op marketplaces?

Please wait...
