Heavy hitting awesomeness on that "other notables" list - people both committed to social justice and great histories of making shit happen!

Great to see Shefali Ranganathan co-chairing the transition committee and then stepping in as deputy mayor. Only downside is she'll have to step down as executive directory of TCC.

Shefali's presence bodes well for a Durkan administration's commitment to transit, including accelerating Sound Transit 3 and dedicating right-of-way to transit. I can only hope this is also a sign that Jessyn Farrell will have a key role in a Durkan administration, whether as SDOT director or as an Olympia liaison.

Ranganathan's campain for Sound Transit intentionally deceived voters - Transportation is great but respecting taxpayers by using tax dollars wisely should be a top priority. I don't think ST has shown that it cares about spending nearly as much as it should.

I'd also like to see someone other than Caleb Banta Green for the health representative. He is so biased towards "Safe" Consumption Sites that he is unwilling to look at any other models for combatting heroin addiction. There was just an article about Vermont's hub and spoke method that showed much better success than Vancouvers Consumption Site model with much less disruption to the communities where treatment happened. We should be looking at this type of model for Seattle instead of Vancouver's which has obvious problems and does not even have drug rehabilitation as a goal.

@3 "does not even have drug rehabilitation as a goal"? Do you mean doesn't have it as a price of entry? Because sure it's a goal.

Good job, Jenny, for quickly assembling a diverse, experienced, accomplished team.
6
That's an impressive list of accomplished leaders and community activists by any standard.

Once again, I'm reminded how grateful I am to live in Seattle, especially in contrast to the pre-apocalyptic, moronic, Republinazi shitshow at the federal level in DC.

@3

Setting or changing policy is almost entirely outside the mayor's power, in Seattle. That's the Council's job.

Seattle's mayor is an administrator, not a policymaker.
8
@7, I think you're ignoring the part where the Mayor has to *sign* any legislation passed by the council (and can veto the same).

Stephan Blanford? Ugh!

Big old steaming pile of window dressing. Some of its core members were Ed Murray’s window dressing too.

Who is who in the Big Blue D. Pile em up in Seattle with no agriculture or manufacturing growth just techies, developers and taxers.

This is the beginning of the end for future society because the Big Blue D fall behind in the effort to account for all of society. They have already left for Lakewood and vision 2020 promises more headed in that direction.

Seattle is a waterfront view corridor that will push out the rest of its poor in favor of selling those views, and will further illustrate what happens to the downtrodden. Soon even more drastic choices will be made because even the Big Blue D will account for les and less of society.

Until the public comes to grips with the fact that all the greeny goblygook is just for selling waterfront views, making developers money and building bigger bureaucracy, the accountability for society will never be there...Only accountability for the Big Blue D. They have been feeding on their own for years. The Seattle Eloi are headed for the sirens sounding off in Lakewood.

Soon the government will have to have drastic choices because they will not be able to account for society. They will build a bureaucracy that can only account for a bureaucracy.

There is a government path that accounts for society and that path is not being taken by the Big Blue D...The Big Bad R's aren't going to take it either.

The job of building a futuristic society will never be accomplished in Seattle's waterfront view heaven. The residential high-rise fiefdom with its retail street level development will not be able to produce enough goods and services for their masses. All that stuff will be stuck on the freeways until you die.

I am sick for my grand kids. There is nothing I can do to stop the Big Blue D sweepstakes. I can only hope my grand children can make the social cut.

Did ANY of you see any Socialists on that fucking list? The S.E.I.U. & Teamsters are aristocRATS of Labor, NOT true workplace-democracy unions!!! Pfft!!!
