I only ask this:

Why a black man? And, yes, it's NSFW.

Because it has a certain cache among the target audience. Haven't you heard? Sucking black dick is all the rage among us white women.

No because black men famously can't control their orgasms long enough

Nice try though

Why not a black man? I mean, that guy is hot.

As a white, gay male, I actually find black men to be very hot.

Just my opinion.

Sorry for the double post @ 8 & 9.

Lost connection.

It's a series of (fake?) ads. That particular one has a black man; others do not. Sorry there's not a more dark, hateful explanation.

The other one where the guy is fucking a giant can of sprite is actually pretty amazing.

@1 that doesn't begin to answer the question. The question just becomes, why does it have a certain cache in their target audience?

Having a black man in that role makes it "racier" somehow. How? Why?

Maybe it's supposed to remind us of Seal and Heidi.

Great question. So complex; so many possible answers.

Me, I like that he's black. That makes it more sexy for me. The sexuality of both groups, women and black men, is so often objectified. Here, the problem is canceled out; if the objectification goes both ways, it loses its sting. Yet both can be objectified by me, as the viewer, without making me feel politically compromised. I feel the same way watching two sexy lesbians together (real lesbians, not fake ones). The dominator, the unmarked signifier, is removed from the picture, so I can take his place. I can enjoy the images without guilt or shame.

I realize this response could be interpreted in all kinds of terrible ways, but that's the risk of being honest. Also, be aware that I am not talking about my response to real people here, but to images in an ad that is designed to titillate.

Charles, I'd be interested to hear your take on it, although there is probably nothing you could say about this on Slog that wouldn't get you torn apart.

@15,

Because people are still freaked out (and titillated) by miscegenation.

If they didn't use a black man, I'm betting you'd wonder why commercials never use people of color with white folk....

Your biased thinking on these things is a no-win situation that keeps you seeing yourself as a victim.

And yes that guy was hot..mmmm...

That's the one with the sprite can. What kind of commercial would they make for fountain sprite?
Sadly, this commercial reminded me of last weekend at the west seattle summer fest when my knife had a poorly aimed collision with one of the plastic bottles of sprite on the case I was trying to get into. I know how she feels, except for the part where she liked it.

The first time I tried to tell a dirty joke, before I had ever seen a real penis up close and personal, I compared a penis to a submarine and somehow described a penis as being "green and full of semen" (I think the punchline was "long and hard and full of semen").

I'm glad to find I've been right all along.
