Birther Meltdown

Posted by on Tue, Jul 28, 2009 at 11:19 AM

Yesterday, Hawaii Rep. Neil Aberccrombie passed a resolution celebrating the 50th anniversary of Hawaii's statehood. Included in this resolution, there was a clause that that included the line "Whereas the 44th President of the United States, Barack Obama, was born in Hawaii..." This line, of course, is intended to counter the weird birther conspiracies that seem to be spreading among Tea Party douchebags and the like. Michelle Bachmann tried to block the resolution, but it eventually passed unanimously, 378-0, with 54 not present. Even Bachmann voted for it. Which should be the end of the birth certificate craze, right?

Wrong! Ron Paul fans over at The Daily Paul can tell that something is wrong here. They're on the case:

On July 28th, 2009 MageesterMixit says:
Heil Hitler!

An absurdity!
On July 28th, 2009 JSBach says:
It is a vulgar absurdity to vote yea for something which cannot be demonstrably true...

no more resonse
On July 28th, 2009 impailed2x says:
Doesn't mean a thing ..They want to act like idiots so be it..Where, is not the issue. Good day
naughty, naught

What the he** kinda bill is
On July 28th, 2009 RonPaulSwede says:
What the he** kinda bill is this? People are loosing jobs left and right and this is what they are voting on?

Bachman is now on my throw them out list.

I agree! This makes no more resonse! We need to throw all 387 of these bums out until we can get representatives who can understand how important it is to see the LONG-FORM birth certificate. If we don't see the LONG-FORM birth certificate, we must send Obama back to his sovereign country of Africa. Ron Paul lovers will of course win at this in the end, because Ron Paul lovers don't know how to spell "loose."

Ron Paul was born in Havana, Cuba.

Everyone knows that, just like they know that John McCain was smuggled into Panama from his birthplace in Venezuala.

I'm glad that "serious" new organizations are wasting time on this "serious" issue. I mean it sure beats covering the two wars, a planet that is trying to kill us off for the damage we did to it, the lack of health care and the fact Social Security probably won't be around to the end of the next decade.

But really, let's talk some more about the birthers.

Is the republican party seriously going to pout about losing the election for the entire four years?

@5 I'm pretty sure they will. In the absence of any good ideas or proposals for the issues facing the country, all they can really do is bitch.

All of this controversy can be dismissed if only Barrack Hussein Obama would stop being black and a Democrat.

The birthers are now conceding that yes, he was born in Hawaii. BUT, because his dad was born in Kenya, he was a British citizen, which made Obama a dual citizen at birth, and thus not a 'natural born' citizen.

I wonder if they are the same people who used to believe Obama was born in Kenya, or is really the son of Malcolm X, or whatever. I'm glad this story came back, it's extraordinarily entertaining.

The easiest thing would simply be for Obama to release his so-called long form birth certificate and put this controversy to rest. That would also be the stupidest thing he could do.

Every day the nutty right-wingers keep this story alive is another day Republican lawmakers are distracted answering questions about the issue and and unable to effectively oppose Obama's agenda. And it just reinforces to the rational majority of the nation how the Republicans are held hostage to a bunch of crazies.

Keep it up, birthers, I'm rooting for you!

@1: I may be a pedantic douchebag, but I was directly quoting the pedantic douchebag from the Ron Paul forums, which you would have known if you read the actual post. But you didn't Which makes you a pedantic douchebag, too.

Exactly, the Birthers to the far right are what the Truthers are to the far left: useful idiots to the opposition.

Long live the middle. Obama '12!

I got the joke and I haven't even read the article yet. Your posts are some of the most consistently entertaining/informative. Keep it up!

Barack Hussein Obama (aka Barry Soetero) has yet to prove he his eligible to be POTUS. The Supreme Court must order that he produce his birth certificate. That is the only credible way this question can be answered.

Otherwise, as Alan Keyes has said, the country could be teetering on the edge of civil war, because right thinking patriotic Americans will not allow an unconstitutional usurper to be POTUS.

@ 15, I know you're just trolling, but no, that's not the only credible way for the question to be answered. It's already been credibly answered; President Obama is a naturally born American citizen, and all patriotic Americans already accept that. It's the unpatriotic desperate jerks who are grasping at straws in the attempt to make their inevitable rebellion morally right who keep making this an issue.

So, if I'm to believe the birthers, there is a giant conspiracy stretching back over 4 decades and spanning hundreds of people, to falsify Obama's birth records at the time of his birth (including running birth announcements in two separate papers). This conspiracy includes hospital staff, newspaper staff, various politicains of both parties as well as government officials. All of this was done because it was known way back in 1961 that Obama was going to be president one day & it was going to be necessary to cover up the fact that he was really born in Kenya. And all of the people involved have been able to keep silent about it all this time.

Seriously?

Is that honestly what you birthers expect us to believe?

And you lot wonder why the rest of the world looks at you like you're a few slices shy of a loaf.

MSNBC guest Howard Fineman summed it up like this yesterday, referring to the birthers, really well:

"When the river is low, the river bed is exposed. The river is low in the Republican party right now and you are seeing the rocks at the bottom"

And boy that's a lot of rocks!!

By the way I have noticed liberals lately complaining about this story getting news coverage/attention. These racist, paranoid wackadoos absolutely should not be ignored, they need to be faced and dealt with. The next terrorist attack in this country could likely be from folks in this huge fringe group, the "birther movement," and we don't want to wake up one day and wonder, where did these haters come from and what was egging them on?

Until we have decisive analysis of Barack Deezledorb-Thrax Obama's DNA, I refuse to believe he's even human. Clearly this is all a conspiracy by some highly motivated alien race to hijack this great nation. I WANT MY PLANET BACK

Dear nuthats:

If:
* Obama cannot be proven to be born in Hawaii
* Therefore, Obama was not born in Hawaii.

Then:
* God cannot be proven to exist
* Therefore, God does not exist.

Now go away.

The House and Senate both vote on non-binding resolutions all the time. It takes maybe a couple hours of an aide's time to draft and five minutes for each chamber to vote on. If it is a waste of time, it is at least a small one.
