"So far, so good..."

Not the best possible wording for a headline there, Strange Bedfellows.

Reads like something out of the Stranger ...

Headed for the ballot, which is the reason for the day by day count.

Going to be close, on or off.

Jesus H Christ, what is the matter with that headline writer? What in the hell is good about it?

Horse's Ass, using something called mathematics, reports that the failure threshold is 12.43%, not 14.20%, so 12.3% is dangerously close to not so good.

Can we get someone to call Equal Rights Washington and the various Decline 2 Sign campaigns to let us know how many people signed the "Decline 2 Sign" petitions? I want to see that message loud and clear... DID more Washingtonians sign against the referendum???? Dear god, I hope so...

Ah,
that smokey smell is not Dom toking in a city park while reporting the demise of R71;
it is gay Washington's asses starting to combust....

So far, so good for the survival of the referendum, if you believe that the referendum is sentient and has an interest in self-preservation. Randall, Stickney et al certainly do.

If y'all REALLY want to read something to combust your gay asses, as 6 put it, read the Times's take on 71's miraculous survival thus far: http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/lo…

Maybe they're making up for the 'leaderless right' piece they did a week or two ago.

Per Reporter Lornet Turnbull, the Times is also aware of that fact that voter referendum leader Gary Randall is NOT a registered Washington voter, but feels such information is not relevant.

This is extraordinarily close. The proforma margin on the entire signature base is only 173. Here's the math:

Hey there, Danny Boy. So if this thing does make the ballot, why dontcha do all 'us homos in the fine State of Washington a favor...

Rather than sit and bitch and moan and whine about what the gay orgs are doing, as you usually do, do this instead: if you think you have a better idea, GO AND TALK WITH THEM. If you have ideas about how to make their campaign more effective, GO AND TALK WITH THEM. Actually, do more than talk. WORK WITH THEM. I know it's easier to sit in your office with a pot hangover and just post endless critical drivel (and also to stab people in the back, like you tried to do with Pedersen during his first run, who's done a million times more for the 'mo's of WA than you could accomplish in several lifetimes), but this one's important. Get off your anorexic ass and go talk with them. Work with them. We're in this together. On the day after the election you can go back to being bitter, thin and whiny. Kthxbai.

Dear 14: Not falling for it.

In the past I was told I shouldn't criticize if I wasn't willing to get involved. So I got involved. And then I was told that I couldn't criticize because I was involved or that I had no right to be involved because I could and would abuse/leverage the platform I had at the Stranger and that wasn't fair to others who had gotten involved.

Learned my lesson. Not falling for it again. Sorry. And come on: do you seriously think the gay groups would welcome me marching into their offices to TALK WITH THEM? Please. If they want my advice or opinions, they know where to find them (right here on Slog).

To write is to be involved. As for the Pedersen thing, I didn't support him, and dinged him on some blog posts—I also wrote that, in the wake of the WA supreme court marriage decision, I would likely vote for him. He lived, got elected, and has gone on to do some good stuff, and I've given him credit where credit is due.

Thank you for calling me thin—you made my day!

12.31% rejected gives 87.69% accepted. At that rate 120,739 of the 137,689 signatures will be ok'd and R71 will go to the ballot.

@10 - who cares? you and you alone and the Stranger. (A slow day story to tell us they are scum, which, we already know)

no voter who is undecided on the ISSUE will move cause of Slog fixation about this man. HE is NOT a candidate but a player for an issue campaign.

If they make the ballot, in fact, he will appear to be a political bootstrap hero. Oh shit, might impress voters......

Please sort it out, he is NOT a candidate.

Sorry, but this obviously means that the signatures are good, not that the intentions of those who signed are good. This is making way too much out of the ambiguity inherent in the word "good," and frankly the context already does away with most of that ambiguity in this case.

I'm not buying this figure being sold as some victory, not with having 1,415 already rejected under the pretense of them being non identifiable persons. This is either sabotage (which I wouldn't put pass the anti traditional marriage groups) by way of some plants trying to make it seem as a dishonest petition (the false accusations of lying to signers) or by way of some on the higher ups messing with the checking on purpose. Something smells fishy here, and given the bias anti Ref 71 statement Mr Ammons made before any of the verification process started, I wouldn't doubt some type of shaky business orchestrated by gay groups is behind these rejections.

I want to see transparency and honesty being given with great care in this process and to the handling of these petitions. Given the threats and harassment that the petitioners have been subjected the least that office of the secretary of state can do is make sure that no legitimate signatures are thrown out due to the bias and alternate intentions of some of its employees.

Well then,
I guess we are all "involved",
sitting on our asses "writing",
bitching and moaning and whining-
while the fundies bury us.
On the bright side-
sitting on our asses being "involved"
guarantees we will always have plenty
to bitch and moan and whine about.

"the false accusations of lying to signers"

Oh Loveschild. Why don't you go back a few posts and look at the videos/photos that were posted here of exactly that. Signature gatherers telling bold face lies about this referendum.

Blow it out your ass you ignorant bigot.

24 is correct. We're talking about a person who can cry for post after post about ONE bigot who wasn't even hurt bad in a confrontation with a Prop 8 opponent while being unable to admit that a gay person can EVER be targeted for violence SOLELY because that person is gay.

Nonetheless, I picture her going through a little stroke every time she reads a comment that she doesn't answer because she can't. She probably annoys the hell out of her pastor talking about the dirty sinners on Slog, like Ned Flanders and Rev. Lovejoy.

Watch for Gary Randall and the rest of the bigots to make baseless accusations just like Loveschild's if it's determined that they did not get enough valid signatures, especially if the count is close.

I want to alert those pro traditional marriage people like myself who also read this blog to what seems to me is a new effort (campaign) on the part of the other side of trying to legitimize gay marriage socially. As I was taking my smaller child to a visit to the dentist today I encountered a person representing a very famous national group that likes to litigate on behalf of homosexual causes, asking me if I wanted to answer some questions concerning same sex marriage, now mind you, my daughter was with me and this person didn't think twice about asking me about such things with a minor present. Needless to I quickly declined and hurried up away from there. Once on our way back from the office I saw that the number had gone from one to three on opposite sides of the street, I avoided them as best as I could. I don't know if this is a nation wide campaign being executed, but we need to keep our eyes open.

I'm just relating this for the benefit of those in the minority in this blog, I wish I could have heard what they wanted to say about it although I kinda have my suspicions of what they're trying to acomplish. If you encounter these people and you're not in the company of a minor then please see what they're up to and if they're trying to promote causes that are detrimental to the family, be respectful to them but at the same time be honest in your responses and firm in your convictions.

And if they allow you to minister to them and you're so inclined, then do it, for the glory of the Almighty.

Gasp! The horror! A conversation, how fearful. Hurry, hurry, run tell everyone you can. The dreaded "very famous national group that likes to litigate on behalf of homosexual causes" wanted to have dreaded conversation. Dialog is indeed something to fear. Education is not something to aspire.

My, my, Miss 139 days of Christianity, your keeping God small when you live with so much fear.

@28: So, annoying activists/canvassers bothering you on the street is now part of a conspiracy to brainwash people into catching the gay?

Gotcha. Next time one of those irritating Greenpeace guys tries to say something to me, I'm going to put up my hand and say "No! I don't wanna be gay!"

LC, I'd say you're an idiot, but I've come to the realization that you thrive on the sense of persecution and martyrdom that comes from people like me disrespecting your half-assed opinions. So let me just say this: you are an enemy of freedom and equality. Once you see this, once you begin to understand that your fears and anxieties are being used as excuses for promoting oppression, you will be a better person. This will be painful, but all self-improvement is.

Also, please stop brainwashing your children into believing this crap. You do what you like, but have mercy on the kids.
