Tim Horton Pulls Out of Maggie Gallagher

Posted by on Mon, Aug 10, 2009 at 12:14 PM

No free coffee and donuts for the anti-gay bigots at the National Organization for Marriage. In case you missed it...

Recently, Tim Hortons was approached in Rhode Island to provide free coffee and products for a local event, as we do thousands of times a year across Canada and the United States. For 45 years, Tim Hortons and its store owners have practiced a philosophy of giving back to the communities in which we operate. As a company, our primary focus is on helping children and supporting fundraising events for non-profit organizations and registered charities.

For this reason, Tim Hortons has not sponsored those representing religious groups, political affiliates or lobby groups.

It has come to our attention that the Rhode Island event organizer and purpose of the event fall outside of our sponsorship guidelines. As such, Tim Hortons can not provide support at the event. Tim Hortons and its store owners have always welcomed all families and communities to its restaurants and will continue to do so.

You can resume eating Tim Horton's donuts now.

Why is there no Tim Horton's at Whistler? Will this change with the olympics? It's nice that one cat get suitably nasty poutine at the Beaver-tails hut, but it never feels like a trip to Canada without Tim Hortons.

WOO HOO!

Yeah, my friend Jean said she was surprised there was no Tim Hortons at Whistler when she stayed there with her family.

Never did like the poutine, except for when I was in arctic gear in the snow, and I'd get awfully hungry, so if they had poutine I'd scarf it down.

Sorry if this is a double post, stupid SLOG server error.

Good, I can get some tea or coffee. I'm skiping the donuts, I don't really care for them. Voodoo Donuts is a very rare treat. I like that I can buy a donut and a pair of knickers at the same time, something that can't be done at Krispy Kreme. I haven't matured enought to refrain from smiling at a pair of Voodoo's knickers with their "The Magic is in the Hole!!" slogan on the front.

@4 - they probably missed, it's hard to aim a rifle while wearing eight inch platform heels. I wouldn't worry.

Canadians are so sensible. Krispy Kreme or Dunkin Donuts probably would have taken at least 48 hours to come back with an excruciatingly weasel-worded non-apology that managed to piss off everyone even more.

@2 Whistler would never allow a Tim Horton's there. There are already 90 restaurants and from what I hear most people are happy they do not have one or else they would spend all there time eating there instead of some of the unique places that Whistler has to offer.

It's great that they pulled out and all, but you'd think they'd check out who and what they were supporting before announcing their support for the event....no?

I've sent a message on their customer feedback page, thanking them for removing their sponsorship.

And I'm buying a round of coffee for my friends tonight.

Good news, but Maggie is still dropping hairs in your soup. ANother sponsor, Blount Fine Foods makes soups for Panera Breads and Legal Sea Foods.

@15 Take a look at Blount's non-descrimination statement:
http://www.blountseafood.com/non-discrim…
Have to imagine that some people got completely roped into this event without knowing it really has nothing to do with "celebrating" marriage. It's a big old hatefest and I believe a number of these companies may have gotten tricked.

Tim Horton's is really more of an east coast thing. There was only a handful in the lower mainland until fairly recently. I'm sure Whistler will get one sooner or later.

You should just follow the locals to the last Timmies at the end of Squamish, that's where all those driving up from Vancouver are at 8 am before the lifts open!

Canadians - a country lacking of national identity - but don't mess with our Timmy's.

@12 - Truly, I don't think it occured to them that this event would be a rally against same sex marriage. We don't have that kind of thing up here in Canada. And it had such a friendly name "Celebrate Marriage & Family Day"

Meh. Tim Horton's coffee in Canada is outstanding, but in the U.S. it sucks granite boulders through glass pipettes.

And their doughnuts everywhere do the same.
