Me Love Not Me

Posted by on Fri, Aug 14, 2009 at 1:08 PM

Recall my post about Remy, the star of Ratatouille:

...What he wants to be is what hates him the most: a human being. And a rat that loves humans (the lovers of God’s cleanliness) is a rat that hates itself in the most radical way. This is the movie’s dark conclusion: Remy is only lovable because he does not love himself.

Remy hates himself. A human form of this self-hate can be found in this Fox News report:

NEW ORLEANS — An African-American man from Mississippi admits posing as a white supremacist to send a death threat across state lines by Facebook.

The U.S. Attorney's Office says 20-year-old Dyron L. Hart of Poplarville pleaded guilty Wednesday in federal court to making a threat in November 2008.

Hart admitted creating a name and using a white supremacists' photo to pose as a white man who planned to kill blacks because Barack Obama had been elected president.

He originally was charged with threatening three black students at Nicholls State — where he had attended one semester — but pleaded guilty Wednesday to one count.

He sent the threats from a computer in Poplarville.

The maximum sentence is five years in prison and a $250,000 fine; sentencing is Nov. 18.

This hate is the final door in the house of hate.

He doesn't hate himself. He's just an idiot pulling a prank against people he knew. Great journalism at work again.

Charles,
You're welcome. And, I agree with your analysis. I believe hate harms in ANY capacity even if it is said especially, towards onself.

I remember a college friend who noticed that I used the verb "hate" once toward someone. She said to me "Don't use the word hate! You can dislike someone intensely but don't hate anyone" She essentially outlawed the verb in her vocabulary.

Just stop posting. Your contributions are, for the most part, vapid, pointless, non relevant drivel.

All hate is self-hate, at its core.
I think education would improve in this country if it oriented itself more towards helping young people love themselves. To love yourself you have to understand yourself; understanding involves learning, thus the way we learn about the world is by learning about ourselves.

We should spend the first 1/5th of our life seeking a frame of reference from which we can love ourselves. The 2nd fifth should be spent expanding our identity of self to encompass others, and the rest spent helping those we identify as ourselves.

The rat was Norwegian, I believe.

Why do you have Scandinavians?

What about the guy in NY who got gay bashed and later apologized to his attacker and thanked him for turning him straight?
Now that is self-hate.

I don't think Remy was hateful. Envy isn't self-hate, is it? They're different cardinal sins, at least.

No, no, no, rats = Jews. Don't you know anything? Self-hating rat, self-hating Jew.. obviously Ratatouille is a about an Israeli involved with the human rights movement in the occupied territories...

This fellow probably isn't the only brother who thought it would be funny to be Clayton Bigsby for a day, just to fuck with some people.

A dumbass, yes, a self hating black man, at least based on this alone, one can't make that judgement. Tho in keeping with the Ratatouille theme I think one could fairly say that perhaps Mudede is sadly still projecting his own insecurities thru these posts.

Mr Mudede- Please keep up the Ratatoulie analogies & references. These are profound matters (i'm not being sarcastic)
