This Is Why You're Fat Going To Be In A Food Coma All Weekend, Savage

Posted by on Fri, Aug 14, 2009 at 4:58 PM

The macaroni-and-cheese PANCAKES at Blue Plate in Santa Monica.

pancakescheese.jpg

They're to die for—literally die, slowly, of heart disease. But they're so totally delicious—particularly when you wash 'em down with two glasses of white wine, a Kobe beef hotdog, and some butterscotch pudding.

UPDATE: One of my lunch companions saw this post and called to remind me that I also had a bowl of turkey chili.

Jesus, that's disgusting. Why don't you just spoon some lard out of the can or something? And yet you are skinny and I am fat. Bastard.

I had two bites, Fnarf. Ate the whole hot dog, though. Going to skip dinner, and riding a bike ten miles back to my hotel.

You know, Dan, in Paris when they eat out they might have one of those things with wine.

But all three?

Wow.

Dan, it's harder to fudge this shit on your expense account if you post about it on Slog. Geez.

That does not look appetizing at all.

Has anyone had chocolate-covered bacon?

I've been away, can somebody fill me in on all this discussion lately about reforming Health Care?

Dan, if that's your freaky double-jointed finger bending backward from the fork, you should get screened for Marfan syndrome. So-called double-jointedness is associated with Marfan's, which carries a higher risk of aortic aneurysm. Slender, long-limbed body types are as well. I don't mean to be alarmist, but someone close to me had this. Check it out when you can, okay?

That lady's finger is freaking me out. It looks like a chicken claw.

@9

Thank god I'm not the only one that was freaked out about this. For fuck's sake, take it easy - it's a PANCAKE.

Hot dogs are supposed to be made with Grade Z beef and other disgusting animal byproducts. That's their entire appeal.

Next thing you know, they'll be making fried pork rinds using only the skin of truffle-sniffing pigs.

I think I could only take a few bites, and then I'd be on overload. Dang!

Forgive me, Dan. I can't help but wonder if you hand an appetite accellerant before your wonder lunch. Or, did you skip breakfast? Man that's a lot of food, in my opinion.

@9 -- Honey, you said it. WTF??? I'm going to do a forced moratorium on Slog for a week after that chicken claw freakdom. Truly horrifying.

Much more shocked by turkey chili - which would gag any chili lover.

And why? Cool a pot of good beef chili and carefully skim the fat off. Now, there is some good eating.

@ 14, 17 - yeah, that finger. Just LOOK at that nail!!

Has anyone heard the old gay canard that "tops have shorter nails, but bottoms have cleaner nails"? Take from that what you will.

Whose finger is that anyways? I mean, god...

But the food looks good. I really want to try that now.

Adding an amen to the freaked-out-by-the-finger chorus. Yikes, that's weird looking.

Kenny Shopsin in New York has perfected the mac & cheese pancakes - he's got a zillion funky things on the menu and they all magically work. I think the bread pudding french toast might be the most amazing thing I've ever put in my mouth.

Man Dan, what is the deal with you and food? You have such hang-ups about it. Every time you write about food you come off as a huge asshole, but all your other writing is fine. Did food do something to you? Were you fat for some time in life?

Why is everyone obsessing over the finger? It's moderately weird-looking, yes, now let's get over it please. Perhaps the OP can make an acknowledging note in the post so people will stop carping about it?

Wow, that guy's finger is partially occluded by the fork, making it appear pointier than it really is. I think I might blow a gasket over that horrific imagined sight, since I am (like most Slog commenters) a delicate and easily upset flower.

Just so you know, I had to go on an alcohol-enraged bender, beat my wife, children, and dog, defecate in my neighbor's mailbox, call in sick, knock over a liquor store, hijack a car from a polite school teacher, get hooked on crank, crack, cocaine, crystal, and heroine, drive to Mexico, check in to Betty Ford's, insight a riot, and finally hang myself with the bed linens ...

All because I saw the finger in that picture.

Next time, won't you please think of the flowers?
