Police shut down Rainier Avenue early this morning after a fatal shooting near Franklin High School.
Just after 3:00 this morning, police received reports of a disturbance and gunfire at Rainier Avenue South and South Byron street.
Police and medics arrived at the scene and a found a 31-year-old man lying in an alley. He was taken to Harborview where he died early this morning.
Witnesses told police they saw the gunman—described as a black male, 5'10, 180 pounds, wearing a white shirt and dark pants-—flee the scene in a vehicle heading northbound on Rainier Avenue.
Police do not believe the shooting was random. This is the 16th homicide in Seattle this year.
