Read To Me Tuesday

The Millions links to a really great idea: Read To Me Tuesday on Tumblr. People call 1-866-584-6757 and read passages from their favorite books aloud to the voice mail. The passages are then uploaded to a blog. Some of the readers are very not good at reading work aloud, but you can still hear the excitement in their voices as they read the passages.

If I were to take part in this, I think I'd probably read from Jim Dodge's Fup, which is the best book in the world to read aloud.

God, I love that book! Swiped it from a boyfriend during grad school. Okay, not really boyfriend, but worth the tsuris for the book, which is magnificent!

Awesome, thanks for the nod. We don't want to get people too riled up about picking out their passages, though. There's no need for everyone to read Bukowski or David Foster Wallace. We heartily encourage the reading of meaningless ephemera and things that maybe weren't meant to be given voice.

Very bizarre -- I was just thinking about this book yesterday, and wondering where I could find it! One of my high school teachers gave me this book (which was written by a relative of his), and I still remember it fondly, many, many, many years later . . .
