Really Random Acts of Kindness

Posted by on Sun, Sep 6, 2009 at 12:05 PM

From today's Rants & Raves in the Seattle Times:

RAVE To everyone at Costco who helped me when I was having difficulty walking. An employee rushed over to help me to a seat. Others came to my aid, including a woman with her arm in a cast. She insisted on buying me a frozen yogurt although the line was long and wouldn't even let me pay for it.

Frozen yogurt? Helps you walk again? Do you apply it to your legs?

Yes, frozen yogurt - as in ice cream like substance, common for 30 years.

Various flavors, often mixed with fruit chunks, less sweet, better for you. Let the kid eat it from time to time.

Better yet this:
Rant To the people who stole beer from our garage! Beer is expensive but we share with our friends. I wonder if our homeowners insurance will cover it?

You did not, I repeat, did not share with me.

Maybe he/she had heat stroke, and the frozen yogurt helped him/her cool down?

Dan, you are an ageist fuck. Pissed you can't watch your mom grow old or something? You'll get your 'difficulty walking' episode soon, you middle aged hag.

Pfft, of COURSE frozen yogurt helps with walking. Everyone knows that, Dan! What rock have you been under?

You'd be amazed at what a box of wine can do.

frozen yogurt is best left to melt on ANY naked crotch, male or female, apply tenderly, it is cold, smear with round and round touch

... then ...

sucked, eaten, licked, slurped off the partner with relish and gusto and sounds, and tons of heated sexual energy

YOU MISSED THIS FUN TIME - BIG TIME DANNY

Hey #9 - Outside of happening on St Dan's smug, smarmy, humorless just-for-giggles blog posts, I'm usually a pretty happy and content person, especially on long weekends.

What, really, was the point of this blog post? It wasn't frozen yogurt, it wasn't a comment on Costco shoppers, it wasn't even a jab at the Times' Rants & Raves. It was to laugh at a presumably elderly person who had a hard time walking and was helped, albeit unorthodoxly, by strangers. Dan's done this over and over again, it's tiresome and worthy of my RANT.

Oh yeah, I'm also a bad bad man. Please don't read my blog comments.

Dan, remember what we talked about in session? Your food issues are your own, and you need to work on embracing and owning these feelings. Your homework for the week was to try and stop projecting your anorexia on others, and to focus on your own food and weight issues. Furthermore, we discussed that ultimately you need to learn to embrace these issues as your own - they have nothing to do with anyone else. That will take time, but meanwhile we did agree in session that you will try to stop criticizing others when it comes to food. If you like, we can move it up to three times a week.

Daniel.

that is enough.

If that story made you go into Sarcastic LA Bitchy Queen mode, you need to come home. Time to leave LA, my friend, and come to Seattle for some normal person time.

Frozen yogurt--I'm going out for some right now. It's just down to the corner, and I believe today's flavor is "cappuchino"(check spelling). Pretty good stuff, and if it helps the lame to walk (and the blind to see) so much the better. Best wishes.

That may have been the switch that turned on your lightbulb, but it's been like this in here for years.

This was my first thought as well. What would be the point otherwise?

Look, all you jerks on this post, including Dan Savage, where the F is any compassion? This person was having some physical difficulty, probably painful. This causes stress. Stress can deplete your blood sugar. She's sitting down, thanks to a nice CostCo employee and some kind soul realizes that something soothing and sweet might both comfort her and perk her up. Later, to show her appreciation, she publishes a "rave," her big mistake.

Savage, what rock have you been festering under? You owe this person and your readers a sincere apology. Get your focus back, man! You do good work, but you have been losing it lately and I think I'm gonna give up reading you, something I never thought I'd do, and I've been reading you for 15 years, plus all the books.

Prompt Treatment for Hypoglycemia

When people think their blood glucose is too low, they should check the blood glucose level of a blood sample using a meter. If the level is below 70 mg/dL, one of these quick-fix foods should be consumed right away to raise blood glucose:

3 or 4 glucose tablets
1 serving of glucose gel—the amount equal to 15 grams of carbohydrate
1/2 cup, or 4 ounces, of any fruit juice
1/2 cup, or 4 ounces, of a regular—not diet—soft drink
1 cup, or 8 ounces, of milk
5 or 6 pieces of hard candy
1 tablespoon of sugar or honey
