Deep Thought

Posted by on Wed, Sep 16, 2009 at 10:33 AM

The police once observed a heterosexual couple having intercourse in a bathroom at Safeco Field during a Mariners game. So no one could object if the police raided Safeco during a game without a warrant, made everyone in the park lie down on the ground, screamed insults at fans who objected, held the fans for hours, frisked everyone, searched everyone for drugs, ran background checks on everyone, and then—after failing to find any drugs or any outstanding warrants for anyone's arrest and failing to catch anyone actually having public sex in the stadium—proceeded to arrest the Ms starting lineup just for the hell of it.

Oh, but the SPD doesn't have a "culture of misconduct" or "widespread corruption", they're just really heavy-handed.

Speaking of "widespread": Ichiro in your proposed scenario. Scruffy little japanese dude. Awww chyeah boyee.

um... gee... you know... I bet people have sex in Poland, too!
So would the police invade Poland?
You know who else invaded Poland?
That's right! THE NAZIS!!!

Great analogy.

Were they Black? The SPD will only do anything if they are Black. They do not care about the Gays or the Straights but search out the Blacks especially those on 3rd and Pine.

Dan, what a nutty post! Did you have Grape-Nuts for breakfast?

The police would have to strip and shower some of the players in the shower room just to be sure there are no drugs in certain cavities.

@5 you obviously haven't been paying attention or you'd know that the SPD has been on a witch hunt of the Seattle gay bars for the better part of a year.

Maybe you'd have noticed if you didn't make everything about race... I'm just sayin'.

How would arresting the people engaged in a crime, at the time of the crime make any sense?

Next thing you know, you're going to demand that the police respond to a bank hold up at the time it's actually happening, when clearly it makes more sense to burst in a month later, and assault the customers, and arrest the tellers.

@11, I did and do notice the crackdown surrounding the Gay Bars in Seattle. My intention was however not well executed was that the SPD appears to only focus on one race and one sexuality. Sorry.

I think it is quite amazing that no one had any drugs. If they had found drugs on one or two people then would raid be justified?
In any given bar, in any given city is their one or two people with drugs and is that the responsibility of bar if they are not using or selling them openly? If you have issues go undercover and arrest people who are having sex in the shaddows or taking drugs but don't come in with assume everyone at a gay bar is guilty by just being there.
As someone who is very anti-drug I find this very upsetting. Simply being in a gay bar should not give a cop probable cause to search you for drugs.

17, No one was arrested for any of the crimes the police claimed they witnessed, and the police don't have any evidence to show what they are claiming is true. You'd think they'd would have taken surveillance video, or even still pictures. Yep, it clearly makes more sense to raid the place weeks later, assault the customers, force everyone to the floor and arrest the staff when absolutely no crimes are being committed, rather than going after the actual lawbreakers, real or imagined.

It looks from the way the complaint was worded that it was most likely a gay man who posted it. They say that they saw the advert on someone's profile on Bear411 and that they advertised it in the bar.

"As the AIDS pandemic nears its fourth decade, we gather to educate and raise awareness about the continued struggles of people living with HIV/AIDS and their families, friends, and support networks as well as to demand all resources and all funding necessary for prevention, treatment, and a cure."

educate and raise awareness... we are aware that homosexual men are responsible for 53% of all new AIDS. doers that count?

to demand all resources and all funding necessary for prevention... what resources to you need to get homosexual men to quit infecting each other? perhaps the other 98% of the country should demand a few things.

From the Southern Voice (a gay newspaper in Atlanta):

The tips that triggered the investigation seem to come from someone familiar with the Atlanta Eagle.
According to the July 1 anonymous Crime Stoppers tip sent via the web, the complainant said the club was closing July 5 at 3 a.m. and would reopen at 3:15 a.m. for an after hours party to benefit the Southern Bears.
“They have hired nude dancers to dance on the bars; sex will be permitted as at most circuit parties, drugs will be sold freely. They plan on using the back entrance for admission that is located off the rear patio. They will be running a shuttle bus to and from the host hotel which is the Courtyard Marriott Northlake on Lavista Road in Tucker, GA,” the tipster states. Included in the tip is co-owner Robby Kelley’s alleged profile on Bear411.com.

Post on the Southern Voice blog, in response to an earlier post:

rptrcub:” I wonder if some bitter queen was involved in this.”

I have to agree with this in regards to the July report regarding Southern Bears and Atlanta Bear Fest. What straight person would have this information and know that an email was sent by Atlanta Eagle to promote this event? This particular report is definitely from the gay community and most likely someone that used to patron the Eagle or was a part of Southern Bears. Shame on this person.

From the Southern Voice:

The APD released reports from undercover officers who visited the bar on May 21 and June 11 and said they witnessed oral and anal sex taking place in a back room of the bar, as well as dancers in their underwear and in g-strings who would pull their underwear down exposing their penis and accept tips from customers at the bar.

A report of what happened Sept. 10 states that an undercover officer “observed two men in what appeared to be a sexual act. Both of the males had their pants lowered and one gentleman was moving his body back and forth toward the other gentleman.”

Post on the Southern Voice blog:

I've been to the Eagle on Thursday nights, and there most definitely is sex there. For the owner to say otherwise is absurd. The police being out of control is an entirely different matter and should be investigated. But sadly, the Eagle brought this on themselves by allowing what they do on Thursday nights.

text of one of the tips to Atlanta Police, printed in the Southern Voice:

“Mayor Franklin: The Atlanta Eagle, a bar that is situated next to one of your old campaign offices, continues to have sex parties on Thursday nights that spills out into the neighborhood. Witnesses (including myself) in the neighborhood have seen men in various stages of undress performing sexual acts on each other including oral and anal sex. Mayor Franklin, your assistance in this matter is desperately needed as people in this neighborhood are concerned about the neighborhood being turned into a brothel,” the complainant stated.

For those who said "no, not deep," I'm curious about where exactly you find problems with this analogy. It's absurd, yes, but that's the point. You wouldn't arrest the Mariners for the suspected criminal behavior of the fans that their entertainment draws... so why would you arrest the underwear dancers for the suspected criminal behavior of the fans that their entertainment draws?

This is aimed partly @21, since he seems to imagine himself a custodian of taste and judgment here. I would really like to know exactly where you find a problem with this analogy.
