Glenn Beckwatch: Froggy Went A-Boilin'

Posted by on Fri, Sep 25, 2009 at 11:28 AM

Slog Tipper Davey alerts us to this video of Glenn Beck boiling a frog to prove a point.

Of course, Glenn Beck's fans went crazy on the Christian Science Monitor, saying that it was a plastic frog, and a guest on Beck's show can in fact confirm that it was a plastic frog:

Glen asked former Ambassador to the UN, John Bolton if the frog was plastic. The ambassador replied yes. Unless you have evidence that Ambassador John Bolten is a liar like too many current serving us in DC (Den of Corruption) I believe John.

Of course. John Bolton is a man to be trusted:

Bolton has been closely associated, both in and out of government, with a number of controversies regarding alleged abuse of intelligence and malfeasance. When he worked as an assistant attorney general under Edwin Meese, Bolton thwarted the Kerry Commission's efforts to obtain documentation, including Bolton's personal notes, about the Iran-Contra affair and alleged Contra drug smuggling.....Bolton was again entangled in controversial schemes to support Republican candidates, this time involving money channeled from Hong Kong and Taiwan to the Republican Party by way of a "think tank" linked to the Republican National Committee (RNC)...

Much more about Bolton can be found here. Look. I don't believe that Glenn Beck boiled a frog on national television. Regardless of what you believe about him, he is incredibly intelligent about his career, and he wouldn't risk that career by harming an animal on-camera. But saying that John Bolton confirms Beck's story is not the way to make a case.

Either way he fails to make a point. If it were a live frog he'd be lambasted (and rightfully so) for animal cruelty. Since it's a plastic frog, it's hardly going to jump out of the gorram pot, is it? And besides, the frog-in-a-pot thing was debunked ages ago. http://www.snopes.com/critters/wild/frog…

Glenn Beck is a dumbass.

There is no frog, plastic or real, going into the water. Watch closely at 1:06. His hands are empty.

It's a real frog, unless they switched to a fake frog when the camera cuts away immediately after he grabbed the frog out of the cage.

And for the record, I don't doubt Beck boiled a real frog. The man doesn't give a rats ass about PETA, and his main audience consists of people who love guns and hunting. Killing an animal means nothing to them.

If they had been real frogs, Glenn Beck would have licked his hands clean after throwing them in.

Beck claims it was a plastic frog?

I demand to see the long-form certificate verifying this!

Why are you so obsessed with this TV commentator? He doesn't seem to be all that entertaining.

@2 is correct. There is no frog involved, real or fake. His hands are empty, and he even says so like 6 seconds after this clip is cut.

you can see the frogs are real and alive when he goes to the container. just before he pulls his hand out, it seems the frog escapes his clutches and jumps to the corner. so his hands were probably empty. so was his intent to put a live frog in? I don't know. but he is clearly delusional to then say, "I swear O thought they jumped right out," when he didn't even have one in his hand!

but I don't know, I thought I heard a splash too. but who cares? #3 is correct, his viewers don't care. They may even respect him more.

What kind of dumbfuck stunt is it to even PRETEND to do that? Typical for this dickhead.

So, John Bolton is to be automatically trusted (because.... he is a former UN ambassador and therefore must be trustworthy because he's an authority figure??), but Obama is not. They want evidence to prove that Bolton is lying, but Obama needs to provide evidence to prove that he is not lying (death panels, birth certificate). Bolton by default tells the truth, but Obama by default lies.

If only there was some way to not pay attention to him.

You know he's sitting there thinking, "damn, I'm just doing the same old brain-dead rabble-rousing shit as a thousand other shock jocks, the same shit I've been doing since forever, and I'm on the cover of Time? What the hell? Life is good. No, sugar, a little more under the balls, thanks."

No, the idiot boy killed a frog in a stupid demo. Otherwise why the surprise for a second when it doesn't work, let alone why do it when it doesn't back up his moronic diatribe. That said, it does kind of remind me of the WKRP episode with the turkey drop.

Now if someone were to throw beck into a giant pot of boiling water - that would be entertainment!

I hear Glenn Beck eats puppies and kittens.

Maybe that's why he's coming here - he heard the King County Animal Control was shutting down and wanted to feast ...

Be they real or fake, why is America letting Glenn Beck boil its Freedom Frogs?

This is dumb - he reaches in, grabs a frog, frog jumps out of his hand, he pretends to hold a frog, he throws nothing into a pot... non-story, I can't believe I'm commenting on this, Glenn Beck is an actor.

he was trying to sucker "ridiculous liberal" quotes out of Olbermann/HuffPo writers so that he has some leverage in his staged wars with them. AP hacks are the audience.

evidence: tone of voice regarding frog actually dying is CLEARLY feigned.

I see all of you missed the point, but then I'm sure none of you were actually watching or listening to the whole thing. Not that you're open minded enough to get it, anyway. It wasn't about whether or not a frog would jump out of hot water; he stated that was a myth.

Try something new. Find the video of the entire segment, watch it, and then comment knowing the facts.

@ 21, Fact is, the point of THIS POST is, did he kill a frog or not? It wasn't about the point HE was trying to make. fact is, Glenn Beck is a dope and so are his fans. You're the proof.
