Who Hates Tim Eyman's Initiative?

So has anyone addressed just why Timmeh pulls this shit? Why he constantly proposes things that would hurt the state and people of Washington?

Was he abused as a child? Just a dick? WTF?

He just wants to turn us into a bankrupt state like California.

Maybe I shouldn't have pushed him off that ledge, but he deserved it.

The reference to California is an apt one (a rarity for Will). Do we really want to do unto Washington what has been done unto California?

We'd be fucking idiots to pass this thing. Of course, that just makes it all the more likely that it will pass.

@4 is right.

We frequently vote against our own self-interest and against the common good in this state, because we're really really gullible.

the more apt comparison is colorado, which passed something similar. they've now voted to suspend the law for 5 years to allow the state to get back on its feet.

tim eyman is trying to do what grover norquist wanted: cut government's funding sources until it is so weak it can be drowned in the bathtub. then we will enter an objectivist/libertarian/paultard paradise.

Tim Eyman found a way to make a profit selling bullshit to idiots...even in a saturated market of both.

I hate 1033 too. But what I hate more is irresponsible spending on the part of my elected offical. I can't afford higher taxes. End of my story.

And STOP with the California comparison. If you haven't noticed this is NOT California.

Reality Check 14
@13 For the Obvious Win

1033 may not be a perfect solution, but it addresses a bigger problem of politicians who don't/won't adhere to a strict modest budget.

Even in these times of economic pull back, we see politicians trying to spend more money on social programs. One only needs to look at a post today by Brendan about the "Culture Constituency" to see that liberals who pander to politicians supporting increases in Social spending will get "support" from bleeding hearts who want their cake funded with better and better frosting, else they vote for someone else.

It is this kind of short sighted politics by liberal whack jobs that necessitate legislation like this being enacted.

Just consider that the states that feel the need to enact these laws, are the states that have an increasingly liberal, social welfare makeup, with increasing numbers of illegal immigrants, increased welfare nanny state social programs and neo-liberal social policies. Coincidence?

I think not.

States that are traditionally much more conservative in their spending/budget habits have governments that stick to and maintain a fiscally conservative budget. Those same states are doing much better in regards to their overall financial situation.

Coincidence again?

@13 Taxes aren't high.

State and Local Tax Rates, Washington State 1977-2008
Highest year, 1994, 10.4%
Lowest year, 2000, 8.5%
Last year, 2008, 8.9%
Ranking, 35th out of 50 states.
National Average, 2008, 9.7%

"States that are traditionally much more conservative in their spending/budget habits have governments that stick to and maintain a fiscally conservative budget. Those same states are doing much better in regards to their overall financial situation."

Oh you mean Nevada, who has the second lowest taxes and the second highest unemployment rate?

Or do you mean Connecticut, Maryland, and Hawaii, who have the 3rd, 4th and 5th highest taxes, but well below average unemployment?

In fact, there is ZERO correlation between tax rate and unemployment.

I hate 1033 too. But what I hate more is irresponsible spending on the part of my elected offical.

Then work to REPLACE 'EM. This is a representative democracy, for chrissakes. All this "Oh, now we can FORCE THEM NOT TO SPEND!" crap is useless when at the same time you're demanding they spend money on education AND public health AND roads AND whatever social agenda claptrap comes up

I can't afford higher taxes. End of my story.

I can't afford a non-functional government hamstrung by people who demand everything of their government and refuse to pay for it like you. And that IS California, idiot. 47th in per capita spending for students. Once upon a time it was top ten.

Washington is 42nd, by the by. There are only two Southern states that now rank below Washington in per capita spending -- Tennessee and Texas. Alabama, Mississippi, Oklahoma, and Louisiana, who all once fought over 51st place every year, have raised their per capita spending considerably. Seattle's schools are now heavily reliant on whatever money PTAs and non-profits can give them just to reach a mere modicum of quality.

We now spend less on education per capita than Mississippi. Let that sink in to your thick skull for a second. And then ask yourself what happens when Boeing packs it up for South Carolina and Oklahoma in the next five years -- states that are not only right-to-work but also turning out more knowledge workers than Washington is. And you can expect tech companies will be the next ones out the door soon. You think you're overtaxed now? Wait until there are no upper-middle class people left to subsidize the state services you insist you don't use.

1033 may not be a perfect solution, but it addresses a bigger problem of politicians who don't/won't adhere to a strict modest budget.

I'm not even sure what to do with you. Either you're blind to the realities of what goes on in Olympia, or you're illiterate and can't see that the "strict modest budget" we'll be stuck with doesn't even pay for the most basic of constitutionally and federally required programs (e.g. schools), or you're just another greedy, selfish Baby Boomer who thinks the world revolves around you and only care about other people if they're sucking you off. Or you could just be too stupid for your own good.

Either way, I encourage you to eat at our local restaurants once 1033 passes, as the health inspectors, those evil, socialist types who force liberal ideas like "sanitation" and "hygiene" upon poor, innocent restaurants, will be gone forever. Enjoy the liver damage from hepatitis A! It's the medical ailment of FREEDOM.

@13 No, Washington is not California.
Pass 1033 and watch it become California.
You want Seattle to be run by trolls from east of the Cascades? You want terrible roads that ruin your car and make your mechanic rich? You want your children to not be able to answer who the first president of the US?

Reality Check 19
@16 nope none of them states. Nice try. Did you have to go do some google research to find states to fit your assumptions ahead of time?

How about naming some Conservative run states? Let's look at North Dakota, Wyoming, Texas for starters. Research those and get back to me jackass.

Unemployment is not the only measure of a state's health. Fiscal responsibility, constitutionally mandated budgets, low(er) levels of social service funding, and governments who don't try levying every pet project equates to citizens needing to prioritize actual state critical infrastructure priorities.

And unlike @17 stupid assertation that someone "forces" spending on all of those things they mention. Nope he is wrong. Only spend $$$ on law enforcement, education and roads. Everything else takes a complete backseat for at least 3 years during this recovery from the recession. That includes expensive public transit waste, social welfare programs other than critical healthcare necessities, arts funding, and low income housing initiatives.

Yep we can't afford more taxes. That means everyone is required to tighten their proverbial fiscal belt and learn to live lean and without. And it means that if you can not afford to live here, well then please move the fuck out to a state that has a lower cost of living. Noone is promised that they have an absolute right to have government subsidize their lifestyle choices and location. Mississippi, Louisiana, and Arkansas are all much cheaper. Move on if you must.

A government is NOT non functioning simply because it can't provide everything for its citizens. Citizens need to learn to not put their hand out so much. Independence from government should be an instilled value.

You sit there and type away about all the doom and gloom. Take your pathetic sob story and shove it up your ass. Other states far less wealthy than Washington manage to run their states just fine. Of course those states are managed with a completely different mentality. Washington and other similar liberal states are now learning the painful lesson of trying to give away too much to their citizenry. If it wouldn't be for the many uber rich millionaires in this state, in addition to the high tech workers whose salaries and spending habits fund a huge majority of the state's budget, you idiot liberals would have had problems years ago. With Microsoft and the rest of the downstream tech industry pulling back, it is only a matter of time before this state is completely broke.

When that happens you can indeed turn to your precious Democratic majority politicians and whine about how in the world could we possibly have gotten in to this mess?

It couldn't be those liberal social policies and out of control spending habits now would it?

Hmmmm

Seems like you want it all for free.
