The Scientific Method

Posted by on Fri, Oct 9, 2009 at 2:30 PM

The feminized/masculinized guy from that study doesn't do it for me—ovulating or not, I'm just not into him (why does his fro grow when he gets masculinized?)—and, hey, it's not sound science if an experiment can't be duplicated to test the reliability of the results. So here in the interest of science...

2boyspillstudy.jpg

I want to fuck...

I am..

The results of Slog polls are scientifically valid and legally binding.

Is there a way to cross reference this and tell who's a dude who would do the macho dude.

Also, who's straight and who's gay. Given that the majority of voters (so far) are dudes, perhaps the gay/straight leaning might slant the vote.

Find it interesting that the majority of voters have been men, homosexual men, how is then supposed to be "science" when the gender that the real study is studying is not being represented here?

Doubt that any real woman will not go for the man represented on the right, cuz you might as well put a wig on "the Boy On the Left" and crown her miss universe.

28 I've read that experts explain that those struggling with homosexuality even when acting it out still unconsciously seek for feminine characteristics in their pairings because nature no matter how much men or women deviate from it still sorta kicks in our subconscious and tries to steer us into our evolutionary purpose with the opposite sex.

Mrs. Baconcat has a beard and listens to punk rock and a little bit of metal. I like metal, butt rock, basketball and used to bounce for a friend (until a long story ensued). I also have what I attempt to pass off as a beard, but... not really a beard. More like a hipster rug.

We can pick and choose arbitrary gender-slanted traits all day, but you're still wrong-wrong-wrong. Or I'm not "struggling". Which explains why I like booty so much.

@52 - I'm probably wrong, but I'm serious. Sometimes LC's posts appear to be written by someone not fluent in English (e.g. #20) and sometimes by someone who is (e.g. #31). The typing, spelling, and grammar skills also vary pretty widely. (The full-of-shitness level, however, seems to remain fairly constant.) One person doesn't normally learn/forget/relearn how to spell or use proper grammar, so it makes me think that several different people are posting under this one alias. My guess is that it's a group of sociology grad students doing an experiment.

Open minded straight woman here on a low-estrogen pill for other reasons than not wanting a kid (although it helps keep that scenario at bay too) and I find that green/gray eyed hunk on the right to be my style, although the pic is most unflattering. Looking at his neck I am betting he has one hell of an upper body, and most younger athletic football players are hot, period. The boy on the right has beautiful eyes but his nose is a huge turn off to me, and does not flatter his pointed chin. Plus I am jealous of his hair, and that is not a good thing.

Hmm.

The one on the left has nice eyes, the one on the right is more solid but looks like he's trying to shit a foot long dildo. The left one's hair is just way too long for me, and the right one is pretty much bald. I like -some- hair.

So, no voting there, but I did vote that I'm a dude. And last I checked I wasn't ovulating. \o/

Well, on the subject of homosexuality causing people to subconsciously seek out same sex partners with feminine characteristics (for gay guys) or masculine characteristic (for lesbians), wouldn't it follow that these gay men allegedly all seeking 'ersatz women' because they subconsiously want to procreate are actually ending up in pseudo lesbian relationships, and lesbians in pseudo male-male relationships? So, not so much evolution trying to assert itself as a case of ending back where you started.

token attention payment to @31:

Your theory about 'nature' doesn't quite explain the drawn between two bull dykes. Nor critters "in nature" like the white-stripe white throated sparrow, or coho salmon and red deer which both have three genders. How bout the bisexual flowers, like the lily or rose? Clown Fish that literally morph their dna to become male or female? The common reed frog?? How about the FIFTEEN HUNDRED species in which homosexuality has been observed? Need a cite? ok:
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Homosexual_animal#…;

For that matter, if a leather bear is in love with a flaming drag queen, your theory is only half possible: how does your theory explain the male drag queen's love for his big hairy biker guy? Or two leathermen in love with one another in a non-Sub/Dom marriage?

I will agree only that nature kicks and stirs some folk's need to PARENT. EX: There are three couples on my street raising beautiful families, all gay or lesbian parents, and sure enough raising kids without having to force themselves to "go str8". Turns out they evolved through humanity enough to make a choice to use science, law &/or medicine to fulfill their longing and still not compromise who, and how, they love.

Sometimes I wonder.... "Ohh look at me, pick me pick meeeeee!" *lifts shirt and flashes unamused crowd* -Lovechild

@68: taking you at face value: track the start of your last period. count 14 days before. That's likely to be your o day. Know your cycle. check that upcoming day that would be your 'o' day. On or around that day, listen to your body. Those little flutters and cramps? That's your ovulation. Have unprotected sex that day and you will get pregnant, sometimes even while you are on the pill. *Cue "the more you know" music*
More...

hey 70-
i just read that wikipedia article on "third gender." 1) i think the interpretation that those examples represent "gender" could be viewed as controversial (first hint: Roughgarden espouses it = controversial) 2) your reading of it is a bit off, for example, according to the article, the sparrows actually have four "genders" and 3) the metaphor doesn't work here to compare with human homosexuals. Female aggressive morph sparrows still mate with males, not with females.Ditto for a lot of the other animal examples.
Not that a lot of examples in nature are good for proving that human behaivor is "natural." I'm just suspicious of this Wikipedia entry.

OK, so #1: I am in NO WAY attracted to the dude on the right because he looks like an older man and is making a weird face.

#2: The options should not be "ovulating vs not ovulating" as there are only a few days out of the month that a woman not on hormonal birth control actually is ovulating. The options should be "on hormonal birth control vs not on hormonal birth control vs a dude". This would be a much clearer distinction and would provide Dan with a better picture of what women (and some dudes) want.

PS - in the first post of the feminized guy vs the masculinized guy, I totally would do the masculinized guy, fro or not! :)
