Speaking of the King James Bible

Posted by on Wed, Oct 14, 2009 at 1:18 PM

Do these assholes know that it's named after a fag? There aren't a lot of historical figures who can say, with some certainty, were gay. King James I—the only son of Mary Queen of Scots—is one of 'em.

I didn't know that... pretty funny!

Another bullet to fire at religious anti-gay wackos.

King James definitely was effeminate and had his male favorites.... He did father many children, among them Charles the first who was beheaded and maternal ancestors to the Spanish and French royal families (house of the Spanish Bourbons and house of Orleans’s). James's father was a homosexual too- Lord Darnley. Darnley was murdered with his lover by allegedly Mary Queen of Scots... Incidentally, Mary Queen of Scots was an ancestor of Louis the XVI and Marie Antoinette- both who also lost their heads by execution...

@2 Nice story. Nothing like a good christian family drama.

Setting aside the lunacy of parsing the pronouncements of illiterate biblical literalists, Dan, if we're gonna go that deep--wouldn't we also ask why dear queer James allowed all that nasty stuff in Leviticus to make it into the final draft? Oh never mind...

uh, y'all do know that big, old, flaming, cocksucking/buttfucking homosexuals are frequently married-to women-and quite capable of fathering children, right?

King James was a big,ole pass around party bottom and that, historically speaking, is old news...

"King James was an early opponent of painless childbirth."

In The Warfare of Science with Theology (1896), A.D. White outlines how one of the King's subjects, a gentlewoman named Eufame MacAlyane, was suffering unbearable pain during the birth of her twin sons. In desperation, she sought pain-relief from Agnes Sampson, reportedly a witch. MacAlyane thereby violated God’s command in Gen. 3:16: "Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee."

The King ordered her execution. Eufame MacAlyane was burned alive on Castle Hill, Edinburgh in 1591.

I can't believe I'm the first to post this...

Does that make it the Queen James Version then?

James was also terrified of witches (read: wise women and midwives) hence the mistranslation that makes contemporary Wiccans an preferred target of fundies.

And denied Rowling a literary award here in the US.

actually, dan, james was her only CHILD. no sisters, no brothers. not only was her second husband, Lord Darnley, a homosexual, he was her cousin. end of history lesson.

At last, someone else noticed this! It is deliciously ironic. And I actually read about James I being gay and having the bible version named for him in my AP European history book...

Churchill mentions James' thing for pretty men in his "History of English Speaking Peoples". But James had nothing to do with the translation besides asking for one that was party neutral.

What does King James 1 being gay matter?
I suppose for homophobes who have nothing better to do then it does matter.
