Overheard in the Park

Posted by on Thu, Nov 12, 2009 at 2:53 PM

A grizzled old man in a ripped green raincoat talking to a rosy-cheeked young lady who looked like she was losing her patience:

My parents didn't drink. So how did I get here?

Perhaps because even the children of non-drinking parents can end up in a ripped green raincoat holding rosy-cheeked young ladies hostage with their rambling attempt to be given some spare change (I am assuming the end goal of the conversation was spare change).

"So how did I get here?"

I don't know, depends on where he was coming from: if it was the U-District then probably the 49, from Queen Anne the 8, but he might not have taken public transit at all and rode in on a yak.

@1,

Much of the time they just want to vent, and they know rosy-cheeked young women aren't going to assault them or tell them to go fuck themselves.

That said, it drives me crazy when panhandlers give me a long sob story. Get to the point so I can say no and be on my way.

letting the days go by
(let the water hold me down)
letting the days go by
(water flowing under ground)
into the blue again
(under the silent water)
same as it ever was same as it ever was

I guess "You were drinking enough for the both of them and obviously blacked out on the way here." would have been too rude for someone in her situation, huh?
