The Stranger donated extensive in-kind resources to candidates and causes it supported in the election earlier this month-

>"Approve R-71" signs on newspaper boxes
>"Approve R-71" running at the top of the print edition for weeks
>"Approve R-71" banners running on the website for weeks (a website with Zillions of unique visitors a month, most in Washington state)
>Banners and advertisements for candidates for office running on the website for weeks.
>News "reporters" doing exhaustive extensive infomercial advertising masquerading as journalism to promote candidates and causes endorsed by The Stranger.

Did the Stranger report the value of these extensive in-kind contributions to Washington State Public Disclosure Commission (PDC) as required by law ?
What was the value of the donated services, time and expertise?

Can Dominic look into this?

No mention of the bicyclist who ran over a toddler at 1st and Pike and then tried to get back on his bike and ride away?

I'm sure if it was an automobile hit-and-run you'd be launching a 3-part investigation.

@7:
OOh yah! The Stranger is sooooooo bicycle friendly that they refuse to investigate crimes committed whist one is bicycling. Let free bicycle anarchy reign!

Give me a fawkin' break!

So why is there no mention of the big news story about the cyclist who plowed a child over in front of Pike Place Market, and then tried escaping only to be tackled by witnesses down the block?

Hmmm?

Is the Stranger fair and balanced enough to cover a story about a cyclist that is going to face multiple assault and battery chargers for causing a child's mouth to be wired shut to fix the damage?

Story please!

@6 - I think those were what people in the business call "trailer ads for editorial endorsements".

Lesson One: don't pick a fight with people who buy ink by the barrel or who knit tubes for the Internets when they're not shooting pr0n movies for Hump.

If the liberals, and the althip media had any sense, this story on GM would be repeated TEN THOUSAND TIMES all over cable and the internet, and by Obama, to show that GOVERNMENT PROGRAMS WORK esp. this massive thing called Keynesian intervention in the eocnomy to prevent a great depression. We'd see countless vigils praising Obama and the democrats for the 25,000,000 jobs that we saved. We'd all trakc the repayments from GM and others (really, manyof the "bailout" funds will be repaid...IOW the "bailout" term itself is a lie)....we'd have "Franklin Roosevelt No-Frear-Itself Parties" instead of just tea parties with liberals and leftists celebrating how great government is and how well it works. We'd all be hearing about Germany and how a real jobs programs works.

Oh wait, we're in America where even liberals like the STranger go to Alaska and wwrite things like "well yes gummint really sucks you know but it's not as bad as corporate power" and toher totally right wing influenced mythlies.

All while mocking Sarah Palin! the level of self delusion and self nonawareness is amazing and breathtaking and in the end

sad.

Because Obama nd the liberals and the alt hip media don't teach America this stuff, THAT"S why we have only have a recovery an d that is why we only did half the stimulus we needed and that is why the GOP just won in NJ and VA and that's why we're all sitting here kind of dispirted about Obama and hope and change and unity.

Thank you. I shall go back to my cave to pop out from time to time. The truth is 95% of all liberals in this nation are trolls for the GOP because they/we fail to trumpet these things and instead we write garbage like "oh yeah the feds govt. really sucks up here in Alaska, that's sure true" and other hallucinatory regurgitations of rightspeak.

More...

@6: I think the paperbox inserts might qualify as ads, but most of the rest falls under free speech and a newspaper's right to make editorial endorsements and to promote them. Why don't you file a complaint with the PDC and find out?

@5,
It think it's supposed to be the voice-cracking yell from Mark in Empire Records.

"Attention Rex Manning fans, to your left you will notice a shoplifter being chased by night manager, Lucas. This young man will be caught, deep fried in a vat of hot oil and served to our first hundred customers. Just another tasty treat from the gang at Empire Records."

@9 tl;dr

clicked on the link in the story, the parent clearly admits fault:

"You tell your kids to look both ways before crossing the street, and be aware [of cars], but I've never mentioned watch out for a bicycle."

that seems pretty darn neglectful to me.

The "Approve R-71" signs on newspaper boxes; "Approve R-71" running at the top of the print edition for weeks; "Approve R-71" banners running on the website for weeks and Banners and advertisements for candidates for office running on the website for weeks are all advertising with easily determined value.
The News "reporters" doing exhaustive extensive infomercial advertising masquerading as journalism to promote candidates and causes endorsed by The Stranger is just business as usual.
