Africa finally has a cause that unites it, gives it a great stick to bash the West with, and puts it in the morally impressive position of saving the world:

(The Nation) ...The African bloc has plenty of dodgy actors in it, of course, and standing up on this one issue does not turn a war criminal into a hero. That said, when it comes to climate change, Africa has emerged here as the conscience of the world— and its best hope of avoiding a disastrously weak deal.
Today, while big NGOs bit their tongues, Lumumba Di-Aping, the Sudanese chairman of the G77 group of developing nations, greeted the news that rich countries will spend a mere $10-billion helping poor states cope with climate change by saying that it was "not enough to buy us coffins." And when the Danish draft of the final agreement was leaked to The Guardian—incorporating much of Washington's destructive wish list—it was the Africans who were out protesting it first.
The climate change crisis is a blessing for 21st century Africa. Fighting the WTO and neoliberalism was a losing battle from the get-go; fighting climate change has a much brighter future. In reality, the West is not at all serious about what it's doing (and has been doing) to the environment, and yet it produces all of this pretty talk about green this and green that. Even Seattle is boasting about its greenness. But in truth, not nearly enough has been done to meet the massive problem caused by the massive economies of the world. Africa promises to see through the green ideology and expose the facts of the matter.

Now if only Uganda would get its shit together and end all of that nonsense about executing gays.
