"Wait, The Stranger Has a Print Edition?"

Posted by on Tue, Dec 29, 2009 at 4:01 PM

IMG_2997.JPG
Every week, the print edition of The Stranger hits the streets almost simultaneously with the online edition. But not this week. Our distro team is hard at work today delivering this week's issue of The Stranger—our annual Regrets issue—for Seattle to read. This means that the print edition beats the online edition to the world by one whole day. Here, to the right, are two models demonstrating the unabashed glee that you will feel on holding a copy of the exclusive-to-print Stranger in your hot little hands before any internet eyes land upon the text.

Don't you want to experience that happiness, that élan? Of course you do! So bring a hard copy of The Stranger home with you tonight. You'll be glad you did.

I know that look. I see it on the faces of people who are carrying home little bags of doggie poo.

@1 is correct. Looks like they photoshoped out the tears, but left the crushed spirit.

If you see one of these people, make sure they wash their hands. Trust me, they have poo-finger, wether they want to admit it or not.

The internet edition is never coming out. Also, I have changed the locks to the building.

And a week alone at the office has finally cracked Brissey. Wonder if we torture the next person more we can get it down to 3 days.

There are black people in the Stranger office?

@5: Charles is real and he is funny in person.

That's all, my comment is done.

If I can't comment on it, it doesn't exist.

I really don't like reading the print edition any more since just about every column I regularly read has already been posted (and read) on the SLOG or Line Out. There's nothing of value in the print ads.

@7: You can always comment in pen.

I like to write "Paul Constant is an inside job" somewhere in all the copies at my local coffeehouse.

I don't know why this isn't common practice with The Stranger. Putting out the print edition a day earlier gives your audience a little more incentive to pick it up (along with the ads that pay your salaries). It's just too easy to remove ads from the online version... which brings me to another idea- why not sprinkle in giveaways and special discounts in the online ads to give people incentive not to block them? (Yeah, yeah- Obviously keeping the paper alive should be incentive enough, but sometimes the public needs something a bit more tangible.)

@11 - some people read it for the ads.

I kind of like the music events listed, and all that, although I could miss the last few pages (providing Dan's column survived).

"There are black people in the Stranger office?"

Charles isn't black, he's African, a giant step above the natives here in the US, black or white. THat's why he got let in.

In related news, the newspaper-themed edition of McSweeney's showed up in the mail today. It's freakin' incredible.

I live outside of Boston. Where is the nearest place I can pick up a copy of the print edition?

Back when you all were in grade school, people use to heckle the Stranger in pen, in the margins of the articles, and then put them back in the box for others to find. Which seemed pretty fucking rad if you'd never heard of online before.

Does this day early business mean that the print edition will arrive in Olympia on Thursday? Or will it be sometime between Friday night and next Wednesday as usual?

You know, if you want people to pick up your rag, you might want to try putting something appealing on the cover.

Just sayin'.
