Talk of the trailer for Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World has been Twittered and embloggened everywhere. Most internet chatterers seem incredibly pleased with the nerd quotient of the film. It does look pretty close to the comic, which I have recently fallen in love with.

One of the first reactions I have on watching the trailer a couple times: I am interested to see comic book-style sound effects employed on a movie screen, almost 50 years after the Batman TV show. Comics readers have winced for the last three decades about newspaper headlines like "POW! BANG! BOOM! Comics Aren't Just for Kids Anymore!" It'll be interesting to see if PowBangBoom Chic takes off as part of a retro fanboy revival. You can at least trust that the adaptation is in good hands: It's directed by Edgar Wright, the director of Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz*. And it looks like Michael Cera gets the shit beaten out of him a lot over the course of the movie, which is a bonus.

* Hot Fuzz was totally underrated. It was not quite as good as Shaun of the Dead, but it was still pretty goddamned funny.
