Today in Appropriate Penis Mutilation

Posted by on Tue, Jun 22, 2010 at 2:34 PM

According to Gizmodo, an inventor in South Africa has come up with a product that should put quite a damper on the nation's raping industry. It's a condom… worn by a woman… that has sharp razors inside... that tears the fuck out of any penis that tries to rape her. INTRIGUED? Read on...

The inventor, Dr Sonnet Ehlers, was inspired to create the painful condom after she met a woman who'd been raped. The woman apparently told Ehlers "if only I had teeth down there," which encouraged her to look at ways to make men regret their actions.

Women fearful of being raped can insert the Rape-Axe condom inside themselves like a diaphragm or tampon. If her worst fears come true, and a man attempts to rape her, the Rape-Axe's inside hooks attach themselves to the penis and don't come off, instead getting even tighter and stopping the man from being able to urinate. The only way to remove it is by seeing a doctor—which will obviously help with prosecution.

WOW. I mean...
WOW. (This thing could be even more effective than a sales tax.)

Yes, this is more than a few years old.

Yes, because the first this you want to do to an overpowering assailant is ENRAGE them.

Oh, maybe if this thing injected some sort of debilitating narcotic. That would be awesome.

Yeah. I guess any woman who wants this should have access to it, but it seems pretty obvious that this would motivate a rapist to become a murderer.

Sooooo old. Also, hello higher chance of HIV transmission. And the inventor is from South Africa! You'd think she would know better.

I like Danger's idea better.

@Kitsch

It's not a condom. What the heck are you even talking about? As soon as a penis is inserted it gets clamped so little to no chance of ejaculation and the thing doesn't draw blood from what I understand the hooks are more like barbs then barbed wire.

@5 actually, the thing doesn't pierce the skin. so no fluids from him. so that isn't an issue. what is a problem is what #3 points out, as well as the fact that a woman would still be raped for this to catch the dude, that there are more ways to rape someone than to vaginally penetrate them with your penis, as well as the fact that putting in a device like this is again putting all responsibility of protection on the woman, etc. but my god I totally get the desire for something like this. finally, this thing should indeed come with a powerful narcotic, if it is to be used.

Am I the only male thinking about the non-rape-preventing aspects to this device? Vindictive/jilted lovers? Blackmail? *shudder* I don't like the thought of my penis being held hostage any more than I like the thought of some woman being raped.

And it could be fun for CBT play!

Yeah, I was thinking it would draw blood.

@3: in the places in africa where this would be used, women are already aware that murder often follows rape.

given the pain it would inflict, most rapists wouldn't be trying to murder anyone - they'd be screaming and lying on the ground, ready for kicking.

@13 -- exactly. This isn't going to "anger" anyone... blind with pain, certainly.

@9,

It can be/has to be removed by a doctor, and it's presence would hardly be conclusive proof of rape.

If the thing is made of latex, and it doesn't embed under the skin, what would prevent someone from removing it themselves?

The website claims it's "razor-sharp." So yeah, increased HIV risk.

@17,

Both rape and HIV are so endemic in South Africa, *increased* HIV risk is beside the point.

kitschnsync 19
That's arguable. Would you prefer that someone fired one bullet at you, or emptied the clip? But yeah, there is about a 1 in 10 chance that a South African woman already has HIV.

This isn't exactly a game changer. The moment this comes out I'd expect rapists to start carrying something they can insert first to draw out the teeth.

What's to prevent the rapist from simply pulling it out first with his fingers?

Unfortunately, most rapes in South Africa are gang rapes. It's considered a fun past-time for guys and their buddies. So this would take out the first rapist but the other 10 or so would have no problem with it. Plus, a woman has other orifices in which a penis can be forced into.

And plus, Who wants to walk around with a teefy condom inside them, that may or may not bunch or get caught on itsself, get lost, or fall out, waiting to get raped? I mean, can you imagine?

"Of course I get raped that one day I decided NOT to wear the teefy condom! That could only happen to me!"

Fifty-Two-Eighty 26
So Lily, do you have a better idea? And you can forget about carrying a gun, a knife, or pepper spray, because they're all "civilized" over there and shit, and you can't carry those things.

Is Wm.™ Steven Humphrey a real person? I`ve always assumed is was a parody persona used by some other stranger staff for trolling. His stuff is all frivolous lame jokes and hyperbole - so I`m not sure how to react to his writing about something as serious as rape.

Superpowers would be a good rape-deterrent.

@26 Sensitivity training for the potential rapists. Self defense training for the potential victims. It may not be perfect, but if rape is a forgone conclusion, if thats just something you're waiting to happen to you, why not just rid yourself of the option? If I had to walk around with that thing in my vagina every moment of every day, just to feel safe (because you never know when the rape is going to happen), then I would rather kill myself. There should just never be a cause to wear something like that.
