Some Big Endorsements in the 34th
- Joe Fitzgibbon: Newly endorsed.
As I've written (here
), this race for a state house seat from West Seattle is one of dueling endorsements and three ideologically-similar candidates trying to get a leg up any way they can.
Today Joe Fitzgibbon
, a 23-year-old former legislative aide to state house member Sharon Nelson and a veteran of the Burien Planning Commission, scored two big nods from big labor unions that can help him get out the vote in November.
Both the Service Employees International Union and the Washington Federation of State Employees are backing Fitzgibbon (on the heels of recent Fitzgibbon endorsements from the Sierra Club Cascade Chapter, Fuse Washington, and the Washington Bus).
In other 34th endorsements, the Metropolitan Democratic Club of Seattle is getting behind Fitzgibbon opponent Marcee Stone
, a legal secretary at a downtown law firm and a longtime campaign finance reform activist. As for the third major candidate in this race, Mike Heavey
, he told me last night that he's looking to emerge as the "third way
"—not the labor guy, not the establishment guy, but the ready-to-get-things-done guy. However, that hasn't translated into any
game-changey endorsements for him lately.
