The Friends of the Library Fall Sale is going up up in Magnuson Park tonight. A quarter of a million books will be available for a literary shopping frenzy.

We have two poetry readings today. A.J. Rathbun and friends read at Open Books this afternoon. Rathbun is the author of a poetry collection titled Want. He is also a "mixologist" who edited a book titled In Their Cups: Poems about Drinking Places, Drinks, and Drinkers. Hooray for booze! Debrah Morkun reads at Pilot Books Tonight. Morkun's new book of poetry is titled Projection Machine.

But the big reading of the day is Tao Lin at Elliott Bay Book Company today at 5. I know, I know, I know. You're sick of reading about our cover boy. But Richard Yates, Tao Lin's newest book, is really good. I say that as someone who is not in love with his other books. I like it a lot. It's hypnotic, like a Brautigan novel, only without any of the hippie stuff and with a lot more shoplifting.

The full readings calendar, including the next week or so, is here. And if you're planning on staying in and you're looking for personalized book recommendations, feel free to tell me the books you like and ask me what to read next over at Questionland.
