We put out the paper on Tuesday so I don't have much time for the blog. But here's a thing: Local pollster Elway Research has released the results of a survey on Mike McGinn's job approval rating. And... well this seems correct—a plurality of voters, myself among them, think he's doing an "only fair" job.

Appointing John Diaz chief to run a troubled police department that became more troubled under his leadership, failing to appoint open director positions in city government, a bizarre overture to take control of the Seattle Public Schools, and sound-bite tunnel opposition that lacks clear directive for an alternative all leave me feeling pretty... meh. So this strong showing of "only fair" seems about right. But I don't, as many do, read "only fair" as being an entirely negative opinion—just not enthusiastic in either direction. (Also: For context, Governor Chris Gregoire had a 68 percent disapproval rating in January.)

The full analysis by Elway—including signs that even tunnel opponents are disenchanted—is here.
