With many of its poison pill amendments having been removed by the house Committee on Health Care & Wellness last week, the bill to clarify Washington's laws on the use of medical cannabis is presently chugging along toward a house floor vote sometime soon.

To that end, the bill is getting a hearing today—right now, actually—before the house Ways And Means Committee. Medical cannabis advocates believe the committee will pass the bill. Then, if it doesn't attract any more problematic amendments in the process, it should be on the floor for a vote sometime in April.

A lot has happened with this bill already, and a lot could still happen, but the prediction right now: It will pass the house, be reconciled with the senate version that passed earlier this month, and be on the governor's desk in a matter of weeks.

As Seattle Sen. Jeanne Kohl-Welles, the bill's sponsor, told the committee just now, the aim of the legislation is "to provide a safe and secure source of the product to those who really need it, and to provide clarity to law enforcement."
