You'd think that after a three day period that wiped out two of his greatest potential rivals, Newt Gingrich would be doing pretty well today. You'd be wrong: Yesterday, Newt Gingrich tried to distance himself from Paul Ryan's Medicare-gutting plan. I suppose he thought it would be smart to draw a difference between himself and the other Republican candidates, and to protect himself from blowback in the general election. But the Wall Street Journal called him out for cowardice, and today House Republicans are accusing him of trying to throw his own party under the bus.

And he's getting shit in Iowa from the general public, too:

As he was getting ready to leave a speaking engagement Dubuque resident Russell Fuhrman approached him in the lobby of the Holiday Inn:

“Get out now before you make a bigger fool of yourself,” Fuhrman said directly to Gingrich.

Gingrich, visibly stunned, quickly moved forward to talk with other guests…

“I’m a strong Republican but he’s an embarrassment to our party,” Fuhrman said.

I'm starting to feel sorry for Newt Gingrich. Maybe this has been his plan all along?
