· RN74 downtown: Seattle gourmands are freaking out as San Franciscoâs RN74 comes to the renovated Joshua Green building at Fourth and Pike. Itâs named for a highway in Burgundy; the menuâs high-end FrancoâNew American, with local/etc. ingredients; the interior features one of those train-stations signs with the flip-over letters, here listing bottles of wine. Michael Minaâs not messing around with the staffing: 15-year Mina veteran Michelle Retallack is heading up the kitchen with help from Larkin Young (Tilth) and sommelier Jeff Lindsay-Thorsen (Cafe Juanita). Aaaannnd, according to the obsessing of local food blogs, Murray Stenson of Zig Zag fame will (probably) be behind the bar after he recovers from shoulder surgery. Fun facts: Mina was born in Cairo, but he grew up just east of the mountains in Ellensburg, and at one distant, faraway time he worked at the terrible restaurant at the Space Needle. ($$$)
· THE RABBIT HOLE in Belltown: Itâs a new dive bar from the people behind nearby (great, non-dive) Bathtub Gin. ($)
· ARTUSI on Capitol Hill: Italyâs Pellegrino Artusi (1820â1911) was the author of the first cookbook uniting the regional cuisines of the country into one awesome whole, tr. The Science of Cooking and the Art of Eating Well, which remains a best-seller. An extension of Spinasse, Seattleâs Artusi is a bar in the Italian aperitivo tradition, with wine, cocktails, and small plates made under the direction of Spinasseâs Jason Stratton, who was one of Food & Wineâs Best New Chefs 2010. Apparently Stratton is a Renaissance man; his paintings hang on Artusiâs walls. ($$)
· THE LUCKY DINER in Belltown: From the former executive chef of unbelievably-still-in-Pike-Place-Market Cutterâs Bayhouse, the Lucky Diner serves old-school diner food until 4 a.m. on weekends. The space looks retro-ish (but mercifully not too much so), and the waitstaff wears vintagey uniforms specially made by local designer Jamie Von Stratton. ($$)
· POTBELLY SANDWICH SHOP downtown: Potbelly is a national sandwich chain known for fast-moving lines and smaller-than-average subsâyou can order âBIGSâ for â30% more of what you love,â which maybe then is normal-sized. (âDid you know we were named after an antique stove?â the website asksâwhatever you say, website.) According to seattlemet.com, âpeopleâpeople in the Midwest, other people on the East Coastâare obsessed with it,â especially the milkshakes, meatball sandwiches, and pizza sandwiches (!). ($)
· THE BACKDOOR AT ROXYâS in Fremont: The Backdoor at Roxyâs is, well, entered through the back door of Roxyâs Deli. There you will find chandeliers, frescoes, mirrors, statuettes, and so forth, with a bar stocked with house-infused liquor serving old-timey cocktails. The menu is American, with an all-you-can eat pork rib special on Sunday nights. ($â$$)
· BANG BAR in West Seattle: Located in the space that Tom Yum Koong used to occupy, Bang Bar is an Asian restaurant and lounge with a lofty goal: to âprovide everyone with joy and happiness through delicious food in a great atmosphere.â Prices look lofty, too: beef macadamia, $24; tropical hoisin roasted duck, $26. · BOUTELOUA BAKERY in Ballard: Bouteloua (pronounced boo-tuh-loo-uh) is an all-vegan bakery from 10-year vegan Megan Jensen. Think of all the butters whose lives will be spared! ($)
· A SQUARE MEAL on Capitol Hill: A Square Meal is a pop-up restaurant operating on the premises of the Volunteer Park Cafe every other Monday (their first dinner will be served June 20). Chef Erik Jackson (Cuoco) will serve local/sustainable/etc. multi-course meals for $65/person, but no wine: BYOB! ($$$)
· STREET DONUTS downtown: From Street Donutsâ super-cute truck come super-cute mini donuts with a side of weirdness: flavors include Nerds, Pop Rocks, and cardamom/ginger. ($)
· PRITTY BOYSâ FAMILY PIZZERIA in Madrona: The owners of Belltownâs Branzino bring a family-friendly (a play area, video games) pizzeria to the former Dulces Latin Bistro location. ($-$$)
· SARAJEVO LOUNGE in Belltown: Named after the capitol of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Sarajevo Lounge is a nightclub in the former location of Del Rey. The owners reportedly used to own a security companyâexperience that probably lends itself nicely to running a club in Belltown.
· TRATTORIA CIOPPINO in Green Lake: Riccardo Simeone, from the Italian town of Gaeta (according to Living Green Lake) by way of Barolo Ristorante, co-owns this neighborhood Italian restaurant. ($$)
· ARTID SIAM THAI on Capitol Hill: Waitâcan it be? ANOTHER Thai restaurant in the same location that bore witness to Chili Basil and Jup Jup Jup? Yup. (Yup, yup.) Theyâre serving free Thai iced tea until June 15 in honor of their opening. ($$$)
· ASIAN 1 in North Seattle: Asian 1âs mission is healthy Asian food made with high-quality ingredients. This is the fourth Asian 1 in Washington; another branch was named the best Thai restaurant, best Chinese restaurant, and a finalist for best Japanese restaurant by residents of Skagit County, according to the Skagit County Business Pulse. ($$)
