A Musical Reading for Kids and Adults, and Thor: God of Feathers
. If the Filter party
doesn't sound like your type of thing, there are a couple of other good-looking events going on tonight. First, Thor Hanson reads up at Third Place Books. Feathers: The Evolution of a Natural Miracle
is a scientific history of feathers
. It's intended for a general audience. Earlier this week, I talked with a bookseller from University Book Store who was a little nervous about reading it because of the strange specificity of the topic, but it turns out that he loved this book. As a bonus, in case you missed it: The author's first name is Thor.
2. Steve Arntson reads at Elliott Bay Book Company tonight. Arntson is the author of a young adult novel titled The Wikkeling. I was part of a writing group that critiqued early drafts of this novel, so I'm biased, but I do think it's a good, entertaining novel. It's about children who discover a dark, weird world in the spirit of Madeleine L'Engle, the Chronicles of Narnia, and Alice in Wonderland. Arntson's band Toy Boats will be performing music on toy instruments before, during, and after this reading. This should be a fun way to kick off your Friday night.
