Details are scarce, but Seattle Police Detective Renee Witt confirms officers are investigating a bike accident that occurred at approximately 11:11 a.m. this morning at the intersection of East Olive Way and Belmont Avenue as a "vehicle versus bike accident." Officers aren't certain because the suspect vehicle in question left the scene before help arrived, making the accident a possible hit and run.

"Officers are looking for a red suspect vehicle, a smaller car," Witt says.

Meanwhile, the cyclist has been transported to Harborview Medical Center for treatment of, at this point, unknown injuries. Witt couldn't confirm if the victim was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident but did say that officers are en route to interview the victim—presumably meaning that the victim is in speaking condition.

UPDATE from Jseattle at CHS Blog: "The rider told medics and police at the scene that the car pulled in front of him causing him to fly over the handlebars as he rapidly applied tried to stop and avoid a crash.

The responding medic crew also said the rider was not wearing a helmet and was complaining of head and back pain before he was transported to the hospital."
