It's a Jacket! It's a Tent! Stop! You're Both Right!

Posted by on Thu, Oct 6, 2011 at 5:29 PM

The shivering horde down in Westlake Park has announced on OccupySeattle.org that the company Jakpaks donated $6,000 worth of their amazing product. What is it, you ask? It's a coat that turns into a backpack—or a tent. Perfect for protesters occupying a wet, chilly park when the city is confiscating tents and tossing people in the slammer. "It is virtually impossible for Seattle Police to literally take the clothes off of our backs," they declare. Here's a video of the Jakpak in "action":

At $250 bucks a pop, that $6,000 is only 24 units, but it's a lovely contribution. There's a $50 discount for anyone who buys a Jakpak and donates it to Occupy Seattle (use the promo code "Occupy").

This is how the corporations co-opt the revolution. McDonalds should donate food.

More like a bivy sack than a tent, but I like it.

@4: This is also how we subvert corporations' calculus of self-interest!

I can't help it, it sounds like a sexual aid with a built in reservoir :)

I almost bought on of these once, thinking of the protagonist in For Whom The Bell Tolls - moving about clandestinely and just lying down and sleeping in his cape - this being the 21st century version...

very kind of them to make the donation!

They look like they would come in handy for an emergency. What a cool way to get their word out.

No need to snicker. If you go to Jackpak.com by mistake, they have those bases covered.

Now, too bad jakpak is not offering them at $50--they could even limit the number, so the unemployed and those of lesser means might afford to buy them for the occupation...

Is the Jackpak made in the USA?

"A Jack Pack is pornographic material that is snuck [sic] into a jail or prison that is wrapped in plastic for repeated use. The possessor of the jack pack can lick the back of the plastic wrap and stick it to the shower walls while the prisoner masturbates. The possessor can either use it for themselves or they can rent it out to other prisoners for items from the commissary."

If you follow the link, it looks like they donated 25 to the protest already on their own. Hopefully a few wealthier libs will throw down and buy some more. Great idea from a cool small indie business.

For anyone prone to anxiety or claustrophobia, that looks more like a panicattackpak.
