Fox News, following the lead of conservative web sites, is reporting today that "NPR Fires Host Over 'Occupy D.C.'"—which turns out not to be quite right.

Lisa Simeone was freelance host of music radio programs Soundprint and World of Opera, and she was also active in Occupy D.C.

Soundprint, which is produced by a company called Soundprint Media Center and carried on many NPR affiliates, cited NPR's conflict-of-interest rules when it fired Simeone for her role in Occupy.

But Soundprint didn't have to fire her. NPR didn't ask it to.

In fact, Simeone still works for World Of Opera, which also appears on NPR affiliates, produced by a station that is supporting her.

Further, NPR's code of conduct specifically cites a freelancer contributing primarily arts coverage as an example of someone who'd be exempt from its code, the AP reports.

For today, let's not forget whose bidding we'd be doing by jumping all over NPR.
