Senator Haugen Is Under Attack

Posted by on Fri, Jan 27, 2012 at 2:06 PM

Anti-gay national organizations are inundating state senator Mary Margaret Haugen with nasty phone calls, trying to intimidate her into retracting plans to cast the key 25th vote in the state senate for marriage equality.

"However, I have no respect for the tactics of these national special-interest groups, who have no stake in our district or our state, and who have recruited out-of-state callers to phone my office and to be intentionally rude to my staff," Haugen writes in a message on her web page apologizing to constituents who can't get through.

As I mention this week, the Christian right's rude tactics aren't working. Read Haugen's whole message here.

I won't add to your jammed phone lines, Senator Haugen so I'll say it here: Thank you for standing up for equality! Much love to you and yours :)

It took her long enough to pick a side, but now that she has, I applaud the way she's standing her ground.

I'm with #1! I'm an expat Seattleite, so I don't want to add to the non-constituent traffic jam, but thank you, Senator for pledging to make my once and future home state better for all.

What a revelation! Attacking people verbally & physically doesn't convince them that your god is a loving God.

(My favorite anecdote comes from Cuba, where the Christians were busy killing all the Carib peoples. Their leader was offered a relatively quick death by strangulation if he converted, or a long painful one by burning if he refused. He asked if he converted, would he go to heaven? (yes) And were their Christians in heaven? (yes) He chose not to convert.)

SB had promised to spread the word to his fellow bigots. Looks like he was actually as good as his word for a change.

Maybe I'll write her a letter of support and send it Feb. 1 as my first letter in Feb.

I sent her a nice thank you email last week after her announcement. Glad to see she's standing by her decision in light of all the calls, and I imagine, barrage of email she's receiving.

Gee, enable the destruction of marriage and family in your state and some people get mad at you?

Who coulda predicted that?

Next election, Haugen, you'll see what happens to idiots like you that listen to faggot propaganda.

@12, my understanding is that you can't donate to her while the Legislature is in session. However, you will be able to do so in March when it's over.

You can, however, go to her website (google her name) and leave an email through there. May I suggest a subject line like "Thank you for your vote"?
