"As the son of a gay man," by Washington State Senator Kevin Ranker

Posted by on Thu, Feb 2, 2012 at 10:27 AM

A few of last night's senate floor speeches were so great that I want to revisit them as video clips today. First up: State Senator Kevin Ranker, D-40, who I'm told never shared this story before last night:

Sen. Ranker's contact info.

I was hoping you'd do this since so many people had trouble with the feeds last night. Thanks.

I live in Bellingham, where I am proud to call him my senator. What a compelling personal story.

This left me in tears. What a fortunate father, what a fortunate son.

As proud mamas, we watched Sen. Ranker in the Senate gallery with our 3 sons and 1 daughter. He spoke truly to the experiences of our children and our desperate need for marriage equality not just in WA, but the USA.

Thanks to each of you for your kind comments.

Eli, you are correct it was a story never told in a public forum. The support shown to me from correspondences over the past 24 hours from throughout the country tells me that it was a story that needed to be told.

While we are not done, and there are incredibly difficult struggles before us... we are on the right side of history today and we should take a moment to reflect upon how good that feels.

Yeaaah! Right on Kevin - I knew you as a surfer/activist, and I'm so proud that you followed your calling to lead and nurture. Stay with it ( and take a little time for baja soon)
