Here's what Ken Hutcherson, official spokesman for Washington's anti-gay-marriage movement, said this morning before the House Judiciary Committee.
Spoiler alert: In addition to calling Representative Jamie Pedersen (D-43) "the worst" for bringing his children to Olympia, Hutch talks about how long he's been black, love, the children, and the limits of Michael Jackson's powers.

Normally, I'd agree that children--especially small children-- shouldn't be dragged into political theatre; they don't fully understand why they're there or what's going on. On the other hand, the right continually frame this issue around what's "best for the children." So they have no one to blame but themselves when their opponents justifiably point to their families and invite the bigot to tell the children, directly to their face, that their family isn't as good because both parents are the same sex.

I appreciate Pastor Hutcherson for what he does. He thinks about hot sweaty gay sex 18 hours a day so I don't have to. Those hot young men in their short shorts. Their swollen members yearning to be free.

Wow. Wow. Deeply bigoted man. I don't think his religious views influence anything. I think his deeply held bigoted views that he is obviously struggling with- from race to homos to whatever- is driving this man. Deeply flawed character with just enough charisma. I meet plenty of disturbed homeless people in need of mental health services that resemble this man.

When Hutcherson says this is an "adult" matter, he means it's supposed to be something we're ashamed of, which we're not, of course. Testifying to congress about a matter that concerns one's family is a noble thing for the whole family to do together. And it's a great civics lesson for the young ones.
If the bigots are going to deprive my daughter's family of equal rights, by all means let them at least see all of us. It's the very least they could do.

Interesting that he talks about his wife, "the whitest white woman in the world," like she's a conquest or trophy, and is ashamed of his own genetic contribution to his children.
When he says that being black isn't a choice, it seems very much like he wishes it was a choice so that he could choose otherwise. It would be sad to behold if there were any evidence that the man deserves pity rather than derision. What a bizarre world view this ugly toad of a man must have.

If marriage isn't a civil right than what dose the state and constitution have to do with anybody's marriage at all? Let's have there be a market for joint economic units (couples) and family economic unit (dependent children), they'll fill out paperwork analogous to small business / partnerships.

Rev. Hutcherson: I've considered praying my left-handedness away - which at times is an awkward inconvenience, sometimes fatal. I've never considered trying to pray my gay away, because like hoping for a higher IQ or wanting blue eyes, it ain't in the cards no matter how much time I spend on my knees. You need to spend more time on your knees praying for common sense and charity and the ability to love thy neighbor as thy crazy self. Years from now, Jamie's kids'll watch this video and wonder how they missed this zany episode of "All in the Family" - with a black man playing Archie Bunker, a script written by George Wallace and Tony Perkins and Callista Gingrich playing Edith Bunker.

The part that leapt out of the nonsense soup at me was his suggestion that "what you are asking me to do as an African-American is accept what you are going through because you are uncomfortable." Um, actually no. You (and the rest of empty-head America) are being asked to stop restricting the legal rights of others because of YOUR personal discomfort with gay sex.

But yet still it isn't about the children. It isn't about marriage. It is about you. And it is about you wanting your way, and you'll use whatever and whoever you can to get it.
So I think this board should be absolutely ashamed of how you're allowing kids to be used for an adult reason.

I wondered for a second if, when he said "for an adult reason", that was some kind of subtle implication that gay marriage=gay sex=pedophilia, but then I remembered he's not that clever and is only barely stringing words together as it is. Innuendo is beyond his powers.

Same-sex marriage will become legal in the not too distant future. Do not demonize the opposition.
Sen. Ed Murray was right about not hating. What the pastor needs is love. There is quite a bit of self-loathing in his speech. He obviously grew up in a very brutal environment and that has helped define who he is.
Although he is the spokesperson for SFM, do not become too focused on him. He is his own worst debating partner. Based on voting results from R-71, the real opposition comes from the more rural parts of the state, so talk to your neighbors outside the city. Real opposition also comes from national anti-equality organizations such the National Organization for Marriage. They are well funded and are a lot more media savy.
