Well, hello 20-inch waist. Also, Karl, you should really learn to keep your yapper shut sometimes.

I find it hard to believe that people actually found that silhouette attractive before the Civil War. Even without the puffy skirt it is digusting.

I wonder if everyone who's so disgusted and offended feels similarly about other extreme body mods? I say live and let live, and if she's happy, I won't judge her any more than I take offense at the ear gaugers, whole-body tattooers, or extreme piercers. Whatever.

To all those who go "ew disgusting!" I don't see how this is any worse than this 99.9% of how women are drawn in comics and video games. She's taken what we're all told is supposed to be perfection and attained it. Good for her.
I'll just leave some examples:

uh this is like art right? like twisted self commentary extremism. so then we are talking about extreme skinny in the form of $$$ and design. ok. so it's like a form of fetish. ok. does it have any influence? can we make this a comment of the fashion worlds obsession with skinny? does that even matter?

as a social porn consumer, we dont usually step on each others' toes regarding categories out of one's taste. we especially go out of the way not to judge the extreme stuff that is out there, but simply offer that its Fucked Up. But whatever.

So I think either its just an extreme form of porn, or it is an extreme form of expression of what a normative industry (fashion) holds to be ideal.

@13: Because something is drawn in a comic book doesn't make it "what we're all told is supposed to be perfection"...that's a false correlation. Comics are, almost by definition, hyper-stylized and NON-real. And besides, the proportions of the samples you've cited feature muscular, strong bodies, not the emaciated freakshow figure here.

Try again.

It just looks very uncomfortable. Plus, I'm surprised she's able to stand and walk that much, given that she can't be getting all that much oxygen into her system, what with her lungs strapped down in their exhale position.

@19: the shapes in comics/games are intended to be desirable and are a direct reflection of the artist's "ideal" female form. We're subjected to images like this (and images of humans photoshopped to closely resemble this) all the time, it has always appeared to me that these proportions are what men think women are "supposed" to look like, or at the very least are what men are told they're supposed to think women are supposed to look like. Trying to deny that the Barbie/Catwoman body type is not a typical representation of the female ideal is ridiculous.
Also, everything I posted featured female figures with significantly tiny waists, no muscular form looks like that. Just because an artist paints lines on the abdomen doesn't mean it resembles "muscular." Oh, and the bust-waist-hip proportions of the typical comic book female are even more exaggerated than the woman corseting up top.
So, uh, try again?

After doing a little research, that's not a corset or a body mod - that's natural. She was born that way.

@27: Uh-oh. Do we still have to hate her while we pity her mindless pursuit of the ideals society forced onto her?

@27: She's wearing a corset in the video, giving her ~15" waist. She's naturally got a 20" waist. Here's a picture of her in a bikini:
