"I want to love my neighbor WELL," by Republican Representative Jan Angel

Posted by on Fri, Feb 10, 2012 at 1:32 PM

Yesterday's last stop on our tour of ?!?!?!?!???? arguments against gay marriage was Republican Representative Mark Hargrove, of Covington, who cited a Jack in the Box commercial as proof that gays shouldn't be married.

Next up! Republican Representative Jan Angel, of Port Orchard, who believes in the rights of all people, and fights every day for those rights, and does not judge, and wants to love her neighbor "WELL," but.... her heart is just so heavy!

Rep. Angel's contact info.

This isn't about judgement or rights, but...

I judge thee to be without rights!

Not as heavy as the hearts of those who have their rights denied them.

She says the definition of traditional marriage goes back to when life began. WHAT FUCK IS SHE BABBLING ABOUT?!? When the first complex proteins joined to create a living cell organism, who the fuck was defining marriage? When humans evolved and climbed out of the trees 200,000 years ago, there wasn't anyone defining marriage!

Is this crazy woman talking about Adam and Eve? Is that what she's really referring to? My head might fucking explode. How can someone like be allowed to make laws and help govern our society? jesus fucking monkey christ.

Look, I don't care what anybody does in the privacy of their own home, ok? You want to engage in aberrant, disgusting behaviour, that's fine, that's cool, just don't do it out in public, please. I swear, it turns my stomach to think that these people can be in charge of raising and tainting a child. Don't get me started on the fact that they can hold public office. They are DISGUSTING and AMORAL.

Fucking fundies.

@5 she didn't say when life "began," she said "when life was created" which was back when Jesus rode the dinosaurs, of course. She's clearly a moron. Get her out of office Port Orchard.

Has anybody checked how many ways the bible defines marriage? I've got 8 ways.
A man and woman (adam and eve)
A man and his mother (Abel and eve by default)
A man, his wife, and a servant (Abraham, Sarah, and Hagar)
A rapist and his victim (Deuteronomy 22:25-29)
A man and his brother's widow
A man with 2 women (genesis 4:19)
A man with 700 women (1 kings 11:3)
*bonus: that same man with his 300 concubines!
A man with his 2 daughters
and of course,
A man with a woman who cheated on him with a god, and then made the man raise the child as if he were his.
Do any Sloggers have any others that I've missed? I want to make sure I have them all before I print a t shirt with this on it.

There's your biblical marriage. If we are going to go with biblical marriage, then damnit, I choose the one with 300 concubines. Otherwise, quit with the biblical marriage chant.
No concubines, no biblical marriage.

I learned everything I know about gay marriage from the side of a box of Cap'n Crunch With Crunchberries one fine morning in 1972.

Maybe she'd accept marriage equality if opposite sex marriage can keep the "traditional" branding?

@9, wouldn't it be Cain and Eve, since Cain slew Abel (jawbone of an ass and all that)?

I still think her head looks like a chicken. However, she may be slightly brighter than the average fowl.

OK, mission assignment for any sports fans:

Get end zone (or equiv) seats and hold up signs that say "1 Kings 11:3"

Are UW basketball games on TV?

If you want to send Angle your support for a 1 Kings 11:3 marriage, the state legislature website supports using the address

3510 Grandview St
Gig Harbor, WA 98335

It's a small park behind a gas station in Gig Harbor. Kinda boring, but so is she.

@14. yup, I stand corrected. Eve had to bed down with the bad boy son (it's probably better that way, at least for the inevitable porn re-make)

I always thought of Abel as the gay one anyway.

And maybe Cain slawed Abel, cuz he was into vegetables, whereas Abel was all about the meat (and barbecues).

Kind of like old-timey Lee Brothers.

Fine, love your neighbor well, but don't let your husband find out.

@ 9

·      1)  Man and a woman (Genesis 2:24) between two individuals.
2)Polygynous marriage (Genesis 4:19 is the first place you find it mentioned) one man is permitted multiple wives. The following is a shortened list of individuals in the Bible that had polygynous marriages Lamech, Esau, Jacob, Gideon, Elkanah, David, Solomon, Rehaboam, and Herod the Great.
·        3)Levirate marriage (Genesis 38: 6-10) from the Latin ‘levir’ meaning brother-in-law. A widow was required to marry her brother-in-law to produce an heir for her dead husband if he died before fathering a son.
·        4)A slave as a piece of property in a plural marriage (Genesis 16), Sarah gives her slave Hagar to Abraham as a substitute womb.
·        5)Concubine marriage (Genesis 22: 24) to a woman of lesser status, but not a slave or prisoner of war, than “official wives”. A brief, but not exhaustive list include: Abraham, Nahor, Jacob, David, and Solomon.
·        6) A male soldier and a female prisoner of war (Numbers 38:1-18; Deuteronomy 21: 11-14) the woman was made to shave her head and allowed a period of morning before she was placed in a marriage.
·        7) A male rapist and his victim (Deuteronomy 21:11-14) provided she wasn’t engaged her rapist pays her father fifty shekels of silver and then marries her.
·        8) Male and female slaves (Exodus 21:4), a slave owner could assign a slave woman to become another slave’s wife. She remained the property of the slave owner though, and if her husband was freed she and their children could not go with him. If he wished to stay than the slave owner would pierce his ear as evidence of his permanent status as a slave to his owner.

Take care.

I can't believe that this argument, used all over the country, isn't being mocked outright, along with the childishness of the ones spouting it. "But it's not what the word means to me...!" And your point is...? The definition to a word evolves over time, lady. Deal with it.

When I hear this bullshit, I just can't help thinking of these remarks about how inane it is to say you're offended.

I believe Jan Angel's first husband committed suicide (very sad). I am not sure if they were divorced or not at the time. I know this is her second marriage and she does not go by her husbands last name which is Williams. I guess she feels more godly if her last name is Angel. She is a nut job and backed by the big money fat cats and of course the "christian" nut jobs. She has always done the bidding of the big developers in Kitsap. Most of the people who control her love her because they are looking for somone with just a few brain cells. Take a look at her bio. under education, she has no degrees listed. That is because I believe she has none. Most of what she listed are three or four day seminars. She is also the Washington State rep. for ALEC. I hope she gets defeated in 2012.
