New Poll: Inslee Tied With McKenna, Gay Marriage Approval at 50 Percent, Marijuana Approval Not, and Gregoire Still Very Unpopular

Posted by on Wed, Feb 22, 2012 at 12:01 PM

Those additional PPP results that I mentioned yesterday are now out. Here you go!

PPP finds the race for Governor of Washington tied, with Jay Inslee and Rob McKenna each at 42%. McKenna had led 40-38 on PPP's only previous poll of the race, last May. The reason Inslee has closed that small gap is that he's now getting the same percentage of the Democratic vote- 81%- that McKenna is getting of the Republican vote.

On gay marriage, PPP says 50 percent of Washingtonians would vote to uphold while 46 percent would vote to repeal. On marijuana legalization, "47 percent of voters say they're currently inclined to vote yes on Initiative 502 to 39 percent who are opposed." And on our beleaguered gov, "Christine Gregoire continues to be one of the most unpopular Governors in the country with 40 percent of voters approving of her to 53 percent who disapprove."

People lie to pollsters.

The last part of the poll is totally correct, however.

Polls settling in at over 50% is great for equality. Marijuana, though, that's sorta wobbly.

Christie to Buffet...STFU !!

Famously outspoken New Jersey Governor Chris Christie says he's "tired" of making the discourse surrounding tax reform all about Warren Buffett - and that if the billionaire investor wants so badly to pay more taxes, "he should just write a check and shut up."

Given the uncertainty of voting on rights, I was gratified to see that a majority still strongly favors "everything but marriage".

On the other hand, I am completely baffled on how they polled on Murray, who admittedly is fourth-highest-ranking Democrat and highest-ranking woman in the Senate, the Chairman of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, as well as other important positions, and skipped what's-her-face... you know, the one actually up for election.

By the time the election comes around, McKenna will be Hutchison to Inslee's Constantine.

Seems like Inslee is doing relatively well considering he hasn't started campaigning yet.

46% opposed to marriage equality is bad, bad news right now. CA marriage started out well and we know how that went after all the viciously negative advertising about us and our families. The confuse the voters into saying no on everything strategy with the initiative in addition to the referendum is going to cost us too. Right now, we're set up to lose on marriage equality.

Christine, that's what you get when you let Eyman run the state.

@8- Agreed. Wait until those millions of out of state $'s start pouring onto our airwaves, telling Washingtonians how we're going to eat their kids for breakfast.

Roll-eyes. Same damned "sky is falling" argument we heard during R-71. Stay focused.

@ 7 He has been in full on campaign mode since May, my inbox says as much.

@ 10 So we put in millions of dollars into the pro side then

@7 and @12 - those close to the Democratic Party have been deeply involved for some time but they don't need to be convinced to vote Inslee. The bigger push to the general electorate clearly will take place much later and I'm not too worried - while people will like Jay the more they get to know him, I'm convinced voters will realize that McKenna's actual positions don't fit with his smiling, even-keeled presentation: He is a staunch, unforgiving conservative with no heart.

By the way, I jog by Jay Inslee's house regularly - I'll wave hello on behalf of SLOGers everywhere.

I guarantee that if I were to ask all my late 20s and early 30s friends, nine out of ten wouldn't know who the fuck Jay Inslee is. But I understand, it's hard to reach a bunch of self involved millennials who probably won't bother voting anyways.

Inslee is getting a big rise in the polls as voters get to know him. It also helps that his work on green jobs is helping pull the state out of recovery. http://www.becketfund.org/protecting-rig…
