Dow 13,000

Posted by on Tue, Feb 28, 2012 at 1:42 PM

Bloomberg sez:

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose, closing above 13,000 (INDU) for the first time since May 2008, after a better-than-estimated consumer confidence report bolstered optimism in the world’s largest economy.

Expect Republican presidential candidates to talk about abortion a whole lot for the next few months.

They could talk about how GDP and related measures - like the Dow index - are, statistically speaking, poor indicators of the well-being of a populace, but that would be a little off-message for the party of the rich, wouldn't it?

Anyway, who cares? This only affects rich people in any meaningful, direct way. Any effect it has on the rest of us is at one or more chaotic removes. Better off making your plans based on whether we're in El Nino or La Nina. At least those have some predictable consequences.

balderdash has a point - unless you actually are maxing out your 401(k)/403(b) and IRA/RothIRA contribs most of this is meaningless to most of you.

Starting when you're 20.

Yeah, 20. Not 40. 20. Get crackin!

Corporations are doing fine as they make their products over seas and sell them in America for a price that one would think is because they might be made here at a "living wage". EXAMPLE: Nike shoes made in Anyplace-Nam for $2 a pair sold in America for $150 a pair. Nike stock hits the sky. Apple I-Gadget made for $1 an item sold in America for $700 each. Apple stock sores. No wonder the DOW is at 13000, corporations are making a fortune.

Wall St. cheers while Main St. rots. This illustrates the total disconnect between the stock markets and the real economy.

SRotU seems to have crashed. Does anyone know where he's located? I'm no comp sci major, but I think someone needs to reset his switch.
