Seattle City Light system status map shows 28 outages affecting 28,218 customers
  • Seattle City Light system status map shows 28 outages affecting 28,218 customers

Seattle City Light reports over 28,000 customers without power in Southeast Seattle, Beacon Hill and SODO, due to a substation malfunction. They hope to have power restored by 5 PM.

Fuck. That's my neck of the woods. You can get the latest status report here.

Also, expect a crappy commute, what with traffic lights dark throughout the outage area. Happy Friday!

Back on in Seward Park already, and once again Twitter provided confirmation and scope of the outage well before City Light themselves.

Was just down on Rainier between 23rd and McClellan and it was a huge clusterfuck. Side streets are fine though.

SCL claims claim it was a power line coming into contact with a piece of equipment at the SODO substation (http://powerlines.seattle.gov/2012/03/09…), but let's be honest -- we all know it was the solar flare.

Snohomish County has installed battery backup systems on more than half of their traffic signal systems. Low-power LED lights mean the batteries can power the traffic signals for up to several hours of full operation now.

SDOT, how you doin'?
