It's become a 2012 tradition: The morning after Mitt Romney wins big in a primary, he or his campaign makes a terrible mistake. Remember when Romney said he wasn't concerned about the very poor? Or that whole Etch-a-Sketch mess? Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be a morning-after gift for the press today, which maybe means that the primary is officially over. The closest the Romney campaign has come to a post-victory error was last night, when Romney' Maryland surrogate announced that women would vote for Romney in November because...

...women...would not be exposed to Romney’s “real views” until the general election. Ehrlich said that once women “see” Romney’s “real views,” the gender gap between him and President Obama would dissipate.

I know a whole lot of voters haven't paid attention to the presidential race so far. Hell, I bet a significant portion of the people who will vote in November don't even know who Mitt Romney is, yet. But does the Romney campaign really think they'll be able to whip out a new, moderate Mitt Romney once the primaries are over? Because there's lots of audio and video of Mitt Romney saying terrible things. Remember when he agreed with the sentiment, if not the exact language, of Rush Limbaugh's attacks on Sandra Fluke? Or when he promised to defund Planned Parenthood? On multiple occasions? This Etch-A-Sketch plan—and I do think it's a real strategy in Romney headquarters—might have worked in the days before YouTube, but how can it possibly work now? Does the Romney campaign believe that women voters are just that dumb?
