2012 / LGBTQITSLFA Mitt Romney's Gay Impression

While everyone was distracted with Rick Santorum, Gawker put up a post from a mole inside Fox News. I recommend you read it, because it's entertaining and interesting and it could be the start of some really fun stuff. But the thing we're paying attention to right now is the video at the top of the post, which consists of some pre-interview video of Mitt Romney making small talk with Sean Hannity. Romney is actually quite human during this video—he talks about his wife with an undeniable warmth in his voice, he discusses the horses he owns, it's all very friendly and un-robotic. But there this six-second span, where Romney mocks a pink tie in a faux-"gay" voice:

"Oh, I'll take the pink one," Romney says, and then laughs like a bro in a locker room. It's an old-fashioned gay panic, a kind of "that's what I'd say if I was gay, but I'm not gay, you betcha, no way." That's how you destroy two-and-a-half minutes of the warmest video of your candidate in existence. Mitt Romney was never going to win the gay vote, but the fact that he sits around in unguarded moments pretending he's too straight for pink isn't going to help him with the moderate swing state female vote he needs to pick up. But what do you think?

With @1 & @2. Hyperscrutiny of a few seconds of video extrapolated into "he's a raging homophobe askdjl;khafdj!!1" isn't helpful. There are enough real reasons not to like him.

What was faux gay voice? The "I'll take the pink one" or the "he he he" or both? I couldn't tell.

To me it seems more like a reinforcement of typical macho-man distaste for all things feminine, including the color pink. Such behavior may occupy the same field on the big venn diagram of oppressive attitudes as incidental homophobia.

In any case, if you really need evidence of what Romney thinks of the gays, you need not look farther than his political party, so.

Hmm... Sounded a little more like a middle aged man with grand-daughters.

More significant: the lazer beam focus he has on Hannity during most of the clip. That doesn't strike me as an empty head like Dubya. Definitely don't misunderestimate this one!

I know plenty of guys who would use the "gay" voice to go nuts over something they really did like, with no homophobia present. Mitt doesn't strike me as that kind of guy....

Romney is a scumbag that protested FOR the Vietnam War then got a deferment as a Mormon missionary to France (where he lived in a small castle). He was born rich and then made a ton of money by destroying other people's middle class jobs. He thinks $300,000 is not a lot of money, gave money to Prop 8, he's building an elevator for his cars in his new mega mansion and he makes $60,000 a DAY doing nothing.

I can say with piece of mind that I HATE him.

I liked John McCain, even though I would never vote for him.

I disliked the policies of Bush Sr but didn't hate him. I disliked Bush Jr but did not hate him and I dislike but don't hate Reagan even though he fired my dad (who was an air traffic controller) and ignored the AIDS epidemic.

I hate Romney. I think he is a piece of shit and he has no good values what so ever.

There is no way we can allow him to win. He would be an awful president.
