It's become a tragic, stitch-faced cliche:

An 81-year-old Satsop woman was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center Monday night after she was attacked by two adult pit bulls in her home on Sixth Street, according to the Grays Harbor County Sheriff’s Office.

“In 30 years, I’ve never seen anything like this,” said Chief Criminal Deputy Dave Pimentel. The woman was severely bitten on her arms, legs, face, chest and back.

... The male roommate shot and killed one of the dogs with a .22-caliber rifle, Pimentel said. The animal had bitten the 81-year-old woman in the calf last week, but that incident was not reported to police, he said.

Reports note that the woman is currently in stable condition.
