Rob McKenna on Gay Marriage: "My position is the same as Barack Obama's"

Posted by on Wed, May 9, 2012 at 12:37 PM

That's what the Republican candidate for governor told the Olympian in January. Of course, McKenna also tossed "at this point" and "as far as I can tell" into his quote:

At this point my position is the same as Barack Obama’s as far as I can tell.

So, at this point—meaning today—is McKenna's position still the same as Barack Obama's?

Charles McCray III, McKenna's campaign spokesman, didn't have an answer when I reached him on his cell phone just now.

"I haven’t talked to Rob about this," McCray said. "I really don’t have any information for you at this time.”

If he ever hoped to win as a moderate he would find a way to support marriage equality as softly as possible. Otherwise R-74 becomes a liability to him in this Obama friendly state.

Someone should see how many flip flops Mitt "Frenchie" Romney will do on this issue over the next month.

I'm betting on about 12.

Not sure about McK.

Can we call McKenna's spokesdouche Charley McCrazy the Third, or would that be off-topic?

When pressed further on the issue, I am sure his response will be to the effect of "GO GET A LIFE" or "WHY DON'T YOU GO GET LAID, LOSER."

McKenna is -surprise!- conservative on this issue and as a practicing Catholic has said that this is a religious issue for him and that marriage is a religious institution. So he is not evolving on the issue. That's his stance: It's against his religion so he's against it.

Why isn't it considered a "flip-flop" when Obama switched his position on same-sex marriage (to appease his rich gay donors) ? I understand that 25% of gay men are opposed to same-sex marriage, along with the majority of voters nationwide; and for good reason -- same-sex marriage is a VERY bad idea.

If Rob McKenna's views on homosexual marriage are the same as current Barack Obama's views, I won't vote for him. In fact, nuclear-family values will be the determining factor of my vote.

We don't need accommodation for and endorsement of homosexuality and loose abortion rights to help curve some mystical over-population issue. What we need is greater reverence for life, and laws enforced that denote that reverence.
