In the most anticipated initial public offering since ever, Facebook went public today at $38 a share, only to close a few hours later at $38.23. Meaning unless you were an early investor or an option-laden employee, or of course, Mark Zuckerberg, the stock probably didn't make you rich today.

Whether those who bought into the IPO will eventually be laughing all the way to the bank remains to be seen. With a price to earnings ratio of 88.20, Facebook's $100 billion-plus valuation strikes me as a tad pricey. But then Amazon's stock hasn't done too shabbily over the past year, and its P/E is currently an astronomical 176.59. So what do I know?
