When it comes down to the three biggest cities of the Pacific Northwest, Vancouver is the most urban, and Seattle the least. Seattle is not even close to Portland, which is smaller and has nothing like or our racial diversity. Why is Portland more urban? Because of its advanced public transportation system; because of its rich bike culture, and because things like SW 3rd and Ankeny can and do happen there.

The street was permanently closed to cars 8 months ago and is now dedicated to outdoor diners serviced by surrounding bars and restaurants, one of which, Central, is owned by the man, Dustin Knox, who spearheaded the street's real urbanization (any process or project that improves public access, pleasure, and mobility). As you drink and eat, the trains of TriMet's MAX zip back and fourth in the distance.
